Official Sim2 Nero 4S owner thread

After comparing the 4S to both the JVC 4500 and Sony 5000 I went with the 4S. Maurizio Cini, Sim2's CEO, stopped by to check out the install. Im having it calibrated next week after which I'll post some settings and specs. Hopefully some others on the board have the projector and can chime in.

How many lumens on the SIM2?
1 Chip DLP - any new technology to suppress the rainbows?

I salute our Immersion professionals: Curt Hoyt to which I am very thankful for positioning my JBL loudspeakers correctly to achieve a very tight bubble and the greatly missed Peter CINERAMAX whose fearless R&D in PRO-RIBBON cinemas, curation of most immersive Kaleidescape scripts and forging ahead to 55 loudspeaker Crystal Led Cinemas will pave the road ahead. And Adam Pelz for bringing the system to jawdropping life!

6000 lumens. I have a 126" Carada screen that's about 1.1 gain. I have a 150" Stewart on order. Maurizio said they have tested it on a 200+" screen in a light controlled room.

I've never seen rainbows so Im not the one to ask. But a friend who has seen rainbows couldn't see any after looking at tv, movies and Xbox.

One thing Ive noticed about this projector is that even non HDR material often looks better in HDR mode. Is that common?

Not sure, hopefully someone more knowledable like Dave Harper will chime in on hdr, but given that this pj is so bright it’s gonna make everything pop!

Sim2 know how to make great projector. This one seems to be super bright, have a great lens and excellent performance. I think the combination of solid color, high brightness and excellent ANSI contrast should provide great image depth.

Non HDR material in HDR mode would exaggerate the colors.

Quality DLP projectors provide image quality that I find very attractive. My current projection system consists of a Sim2 Nero 3D-2, ISO III lens and CineSlide projecting on a Stewart ST100. I love this combination in my theater.

I see a lot of projectors in my business and find that DLP leads in ANSI contrast, sharpness, durability, color accuracy and true digital precision. I look forward to hearing more feedback from owners of the Nero 4S.

I am curious about how loud this high lumen projector is.

Im thrilled with mine. It has the best picture Ive seen (although the JVC may have better blacks). Sim2 advertises 6000 lumens which, if the Sony has 5000, looks about right. I have the iris on 6 (out of 12) for an HDR movie on a 150" screen from about 20'.

There is a guy in town using it on a 200" screen and the picture is supposed to be great. But I havent seen it nor have I talked to anyone else with this projector. So I too would love to hear from anyone that has one.

How loud is your Nero 4S compared to a Sim2 Lumis?

I received an email today (which I am sure a lot of you did) saying that the Nero 4S will be on display in Fort Lauderdale (actually Coral Springs) on March 12 and Orlando on March 14. If I get a chance, then I will head up and try to check it out on the 12th.

After looking and seeing the Sim is a faux-k, I really didn't have a huge interest in going to see it. I then looked at the vendor list and saw that Domotz will be there. If my good friend Steve Crabb is attending with Domotz, then I will be there unless something comes up.

I can't recall if I saw the Sim at Cedia. Maybe Mike, Craig or Arrow remembers. I have been rough on the faux-ks, but the Wolf in Seymour's booth actually didn't look that bad.

Yep, presumably the same TI pixel shifting chip found on the entry level BenQ’s and Optomas? Not to mention it’s lamp based not laser, single chip not three chip, and needs an allen key to set lens shift? I can’t find any specs for calibrated lumens or on/off contrast.

And all for 30 grand. Are Sim2 having some sort of joke here?

I looked but did not see Sim2 at 2018 CEDIA!

Sim was not there last year. The last year SIM was at Cedia was 2016 I think. My notes say " $ 30K Nero single chip " 4K ". " No rainbows at all, super sharp picture, poor blacks " .

IIRC the Wolf was around $10k. Sim would need a lot of lumens or some other unique characteristic to set it apart at that price.

One person on here that was sensitive to RBE had said he also experienced it with the Sim2 Nero. Just think theres no getting around it with a single chipper.

In the past there has been at least one person here in the 20k section that complained about rbe/image break up issue with 3 dmd projectors. I don't have an issue, like most people.

I saw RBE on the single chip " 4K " Barco in the ALcons room at Cedia a couple of years ago. Pity, as I didn't used to see RBE back when single DLP was the mainstay of projection. I think watching 3 chippers has made me susceptible to seeing it now.

Ya that is a pity. It comes down to how fast one moves there eyes across the screen. I have rapid eye movements.

My first pj was a BenQ W7000 DLP 1 chip and the instant I powered it on I realized I suffered from it. Ive never seen it with 3 chips no matter how hard I try although Ive heard of rare people claiming to see RBE with them. Not sure how without the color wheel?

Over a decade ago, a friend showed me rainbows on his Sony G70 CRT. It may happen with all the pjs, but is almost non-existent outside of 1 chip DLP.

Tuesday is the Tech Summit. I am registered. Sim sent me another email today.

Thats very interesting. I think your right tho about the existence of it outside of the 1 chippers.

Oh cool that will be neat. Id be real excited to see whats new. I want 3 chips to become the norm but TI needs to play nicer with pricing or something.

I did not go to the Tech Summit yesterday, so I didn't see the Sim in action. I had some other things I had to take care of.

Also, I found out that my friend Steve Crabb was not going to be attending, so it took out my primary motivation for going.
