At this time I am very likely the only person in the world that got a officially offer from Christie Germany in written form.
When I post after seeing this offer this projector was way more expensive than a Barco Thor I was right not wrong!
I had hear lately form some delay in the product and on top some technical changes that will result may in a cheaper price.
Today it was all speculation what this new price with the technical changes will be but this projector even with this changes will be never cheap.
I have hear some number but I will not talk about it as it is senseless at this time and stage.
Also wrong is your statement about the best 3D.
The best 3D is by far Laser 6P that the Barco Thor have.
So far I know the new upcoming Christie can do shutter and polarizer.
Both show compare to Laser 6P 3D by far a less good picture in 3D and possible the infinity cr. will be never visible as the polarizer and the shutter are the bottleneck when watching 3D. Only in 2D cr. will be infinty cr at the eye.
Shutter and polarizer cannot show more than 6000:1 or max. 8000:1 cr. and this is not
a first April joke!
For more details about it read my posts in the other forum where I post plenty of technical information why this is so.
Hi Wolfgang, I don't tend to follow that other forum any more so missed your post there.
As I have previously stated, product development is not completed yet and the pricing has not be finalized; so we need to be careful making criticisms regarding either price or performance when such things might be different with respect to the final product.
As mentioned there are some hardware aspects that should be seeing the final pricing being considerably less than the pricing which might have been indicated to you at an earlier stage of development.
The fact of the matter is that any and all implication or inference that this Christie projector will be costing as much as 'half a million pounds
' or 'much, much, more than even a Barco Thor
' is factually incorrect. And in fact, if we are making true apples-with-apples comparison this projector even the early indicative pricing for this Christie projector was not in fact 'much, much, more than even a Barco Thor
'. But either way, the good news is that the final product is going to be significantly lower cost than this
Regarding the 3D performance, I can't comment regarding the assumptions you have made regarding contrast performance with 3D being limited to only 8,000:1 so I will need to discuss the matter further with Christie; however, the Barco Thor does not achieve higher contrast than 8,000:1 anyway, and certainly not higher than 5,000:1 without sacrificing a lot of light output hence resulting in comparatively lower image brightness with 3D, so why would it be better?
That said, I do absolutely agree with you that contrast discussion aside the 3D performance of the Barco Thor is indeed incredible, so I have now edited my previous post accordingly
