Interesting but a bit expensive for me. I’ll wait for a cheaper 16-channels AVR with Dirac Live.

At $14K I’d stretch and get the Trinnov Altitude 16.

Or...

Spend $7K less and get the Arcam (bass mgt has been fixed)

Or...

Spend $10K+ less and go Anthem but no DiRac.

Or...
Wait a few more months (possibly years) and try the Emotiva

I’m a Storm (and Anthem and others) dealer so take this as you will, but the Storm competes from an SQ standpoint with anything out there; Trinnov, Theta et al and the UI is superior to all of them. Feature-wise it gives up a bit to the Trinnov in that you can’t remap positions; but little else. We’ve had all the aforementioned processors in our system.

Bryston is now a full line processor, power conditioning, amp, and speaker manufacturer. The demo of the speaker line in Toronto Audio Fest was impressive. Plus the amps have lost the graininess of years past B series, very transparent now. For someone looking for a one brand system that performs, I can't think of an equivalent vertically integrated offering like this, maybe Burmeister but you know...$$$$.

from what I see, the processor looks identical to the Storm Audio unit, are you saying Bryston manufactures this unit or just re badges it?

Nice! Can't wait to hear what you think about it - especially in comparison to the 8805.

Looking for a mid-range 16.1 Pre-Pro for Atmos. I haven't heard much buzz about this pre-pro. How would it compare to Datasat LS10, JBL SDP-55 -both at similar price point. And how about Monoprice HTP-1 which is 1/3 the cost. Would I actually notice a SQ difference versus the "budget" (4K) HTP-1 ?

Bryston SP4 is not a middle class product, it plays in the professional league with Datasat/Trinnov/StormAudio. Personally, I wouldn't buy a Bryston, they are based on StormAudio, but don't implement all the hardware updates from Storm, so the Storm MK-2. If you don't need all the options of Storm/Bryston, I'd take the HTP-1, it won't make much difference in terms of sound.

What are the "hardware updates" between the Storm MK -2 (ex. ISP.3D.16 ELITE) versus the Bryston SP4?
