My theatre upgrade/renovation is coming slowly but surely. The below photos show work done on framing and air conditioning venting.
Theatre dimensions have been 18.25' wide, 25' long' 12' high. New renovated dimensions will be same except length will be 23.33'! Noted acoustician Anthony Grimani recommends length 1.2 to 1.3 X width, which I will have with this renovation. This revised length became appropriate and necessary because my Sony VW5000 laser projector was taken down from its ceiling mount, and will be inset behind the top back wall with its back box in the attic with proper ventilation/cooling, with a Panamorph DCR anamorphic lens added. In the attic there is a structural beam which limited how far back we could go in terms of mounting the projector dead center. And this all worked out well acoustically as well! The photos show area taped off with black tape at the center back where the projector shelf/box will go as the framer completes his work.
When we built the theatre as an addition to my home in 1997, we installed cabinets/shelves/wetbar at the back of the theatre. Those have been removed. We are putting in new cabinetry/doors/shelves for hidden Mid-Atlantic component racks (2 80" high racks, with space for a 3rd just in case) and disc storage! Whereas the previous cabinetry was 20" deep, now it will be 40" deep. Heck, so deep I could put a bed back there!
Also, when we built the theatre in 1997, we installed a long air return under the back cabinetry. Yesterday this was revised, with that air return taken out, keeping the four air registers in my theatre (white grills at ceiling) but replacing them with newer better grills that circulate air better; inserting a new air return above the doors to the theatre from the hallway (which will be quite); and adding new air return ducts above the hallway outside the theatre into the attic where the air handler is (see white grills in hallway outside theatre).
Eventually this should turn out quite nice. 2.5 months so far I've been down and probably 2-3 months to go. But it will be worth it. Once the projector is mounted and running and all the electrical is done I plan to have Kris Deering come out to resetup/recalibrate my Sony VW5000/Panamorph DCR Lens/Lumagen Radiance Pro (Kris is so tuned in to assisting Lumagen in continually improving their DTM - Dynamic Tone Mapping - and by phone/email he gives his customers how to change Radiance Pro settings as Lumagen updates its DTM software). And once all the new room treatments are done and speakers and subwoofers and components are installed then I'll have master calibator Trinnov wizard Adam Pelz come out and do his magic! Here's hoping its done for the New Year. Meanwhile, I get to watch video in my old old basement 5.1 in-wall system with my new LG 65" OLED!
