And they claim infinite contrast ratio. I don't know how you could have bezel-free LCD modules either.
That'a 2.5mm pixel pitch. Hardly "micro" territory. Are you confusing LCD with LED? LED panels have been around for a long time. Many large scale digital billboards or displays are based on them. There are many manufacturers, but Samsung was the first (AFAIK) to bring the technology to the consumer market by reducing the pixel pitch to get high-density pixels, which led to the microLED moniker. At least, that's my understanding.

Sorry I thought you were saying the Onyx was an LCD which of course it is not. I guess the distinction between regularLED and microLED isn't as important for cinema-sized displays.

I am hoping to visit one of the Onyx theaters in a few days.

I'd like to see some images looking at the screen from the back showing the room also, the perspective of the new screen in the room.

Note that rather standard Samsung 8K QLED flat panel units are now available up to ~100" diag size, for well less than $100K. The price on these should decrease substantially, and sizes may also increase somewhat. So will 'the wall' only be for supersize, e.g. screens more than 12 ft wide?

A reasonable supposition, if the PQ of the QLED is acceptable at those sizes and the Wall installations remain so (pro)labor intensive.

Sort of OT but quasi-related: in the OLED sub-forum there's now an owners thread for the 8K 88" LG OLED. One owner so far but mighty impressive PQ at 88". $30k MSRP which will of course also come down. Larger sizes would also be welcomed

Ok guys, sorry for the wait. It took me a while to get the border installed. So, first some pics and then a story.

First, curtain up, lights on. The pic with the screen reflection is front middle seat, and that’s the chandelier light you see reflected. Once the screen is on, you don’t notice it if the lights are still on.

And now some pics from the back with my low light setting showing how it looks. Although the camera shows you reflections off the side columns and stage floor, you don’t notice it in person since the screen is so bright.

So now a story. I took those pics Friday afternoon. I was all set to watch UFC 244 with some friends Saturday night...

And right after I took those pics, one of the 16 panels started flickering on and off every few seconds. Friday at 5:00 pm of course. I called the Samsung guys who installed it. They answered right away and suggested some troubleshooting steps, it seemed to stabilize that night, but Saturday morning, it wasn’t stable. Saturday at 1:00pm, one of the installers from Orange County calls and asks if he can come over to take a look at it. So there we are a few hours before my guests are supposed to arrive, on tall ladders, hoisting down that rather large black fabric surround on the top. With access to the top, he was able to remove the offending panel and reseat the connecting cables on the back. It worked fine after that.

So kudos to Samsung for going the extra mile and helping me out on a Saturday. I had a few choice words for the design team that used pressure fit cables rather than locking cables for the data cables, but I guess this is V1.

So to the few other owners who might read this, have the installers check and double check cable connections during installation. And if you have a surround, make sure it is relatively easy to pull out for service.

Oh, and the UFC fights were awesome.

Thanks for the perspective pics. Just a gorgeous room and entry. Sorry about the bump in the road but all's well that ends well.

Really like your entry. Its one of the biggest things I see go under-utilized or undesigned in so many large theater builds. Cheers.

Maybe I should create a thread for all the design elements we incorporated when creating this theater. There are a lot of them!

Very cool! Thanks for the pics and happy that the techs were responsive (as they should be for the $...)

I +1 the 'tell us more about the theater design' idea

BTW I know you said the low light camera mode captured light that you can't see while watching content, but your theater design is so lovely that I don't think I'd mind. Kind of like the feeling I get at Radio City when the ceiling bounces a little light...
