Arrow was presenting the official position of Samsung saying that the Cinema Onyx is DCI certified in the 34 feet wide 4k version, but not the 2k. The reason they may not offer except in special cases the 16+feet wide 2k version: Screens so narrow are not suitable for average cinemas where 40 foot screens are the norm, however, the color grading room for Onyx cinema and the 3D onyx screen cinema in Switzerland are 2k and fully functional, so there must be 2k compliance for VideoWall cinemas, it's just that is not practical for average halls.

Nope three models are in the catalog, linked in the other thread. And all three are listed as DCi cetrified at the DCi website.

Samsung has always said it will offer a range of sizes to accomodate theater operator needs. The 2K version came first (certifcation took a bit longer, as it was scheduled for February 2018, right after ISE, I was told at that show. The first 5.2 unit was just installed the week for the show at the Hollywood Liaison's office. Samsung being real about marketing this to Hollywood.

Quote:
According to David Hernandez Cinema BD Manager Samsung; "There are now 19/20 Samsung LED Cinema screens in the world. Seven are 2K, the rest 4K. Last week Wanda launched the first all LED multiplex, six screens".

No Qualification from the EU Samsung Onyx responsible manager either. Over one third of deployed displays in September 2018 was 2K. Even key/launch customer Wanda is not 'all 4K'.

Glad to see this new technology has a new home - good call!

Has anybody seen / have any details about the upcoming new smaller-pixel prototypes? it'd be nice if you could get a native 8k display at under 7m wide (and $2million bucks!)

.....saving for my upgrade to Hidef Digital in Christmas 2002

It’s ridiculous Sony is allowed to be DCI compliant with a sub 2K scaled to hell image from their RealD lens, but direct display isn’t allowed to do any scaling.
