I'm getting excited about these new speakers. I've been looking at new speakers for some time now. I like my Infinity IL40s. Great sounding speakers, especially when teamed up with a pair of IL30s for the fronts powered by 4 channels of my UPA-7. They sound incredible with the two 8" and two 6" drivers, makes for some very snappy mids and lows, drums are boom boom, right there. But four speakers just take up too much room. Besides, its time for something new. I've had these IL40s for 8 years!

I don't own cars or motorcycles that long!

.....after having bought a new pair of the ERD-1s, and with what my UPA-7 delivers, I am so impressed by both of them when I consider the money spent on them, I can't help but think the new Emo speakers will deliver the goods and then some. If what I have is any indication, I'd hazard to guess that the 6.3 and towers might deliver sound quality somewhere around twice what is available at retail prices.

I just hope we get someone to post some reviews on the 6.3 and 8.3 soon. Seeing as how they only started shipping this week, I should be patient, right?

i'll have mine on Monday the 16th, but obviously will take a bit to set-up and audition. (8.3 & 6.2)

You will be giving us your impressions, will you not?

I should just man up and pull the trigger on these towers. But my Interludes do sound sweet as a quartet powered by the Emo amp. Every time I crank it up on a Jimmy Thackery or Diana Krall tune that I especially like, they do deliver the goods. The 8.3s would have to be pretty damn good to beat them out. I've heard better than I have right now but I'm not willing to fork out the bux unless what I get sounds better than these. I've heard most of the Infinity speakers that came out after the Interludes back in 99-2000 and these are hard to beat.

Heres what I mean by 'quartet':

Animo on the lounge got his 6.3 today (he bought it to use as a center with his custom speakers). He will be doing a review with his buddy tonight and posting his impressions and some pictures.

Yeah, I've been yo-yoing back and forth from here to there and back again. I guess I should just relax. Word comes when it comes.

airgas1998, do you also post on the Emo Lounge? If you don't, you should. Its much slower than here but the posts are always informative, even if a bit biased.

For those of you who don't wander into the Emo Lounge, a review of the new 6.3 has been posted for reading.

Here is the link to animo's (and Nick's) first impressions of the 6.3. Sounds like a very good start for Emo's new round of speakers.

I see you are having a driver problem - got that from the Lounge post you wrote.

How soon will you have these towers up and running?

Looks like our favorite audio store is having a speaker sale. This is a great package and the price is very nice. Take a look.

There aren't any in depth reviews. However you can go to the Emotiva Lounge and read some of the impressions users have given. This will take some reading as that stuff is scattered over several different threads.

Also, can these speakers be easily painted white? I.e. is the surface paintable.

They are a very good speaker. I have a pair. The mid range from these is as good as speakers costing 4 times more. I use them in the bipole position in phase. Sound dispersion is very good. They use the same 1" tweeter as in the rest of the Emo speakers. Clarity is excellent.

Man o man this thread is dead! Glad you came along to bump it up!

I just bought a pair of the 8.3s today.

They should be here in a week, give or take.
I'll post my impressions on the Emotiva Lounge after I've had the chance to listen to them for a week or so.

I'll have them on Tuesday.

Although there are no reviews posted, the Emotiva Lounge has some first impressions by the early buyers. Most of the buyers have been the 6.3 so far, but word is trickling in about the 8.3s as well.

So far no bad words. Thats a good thing.

I should have that next week too. The party I bought it from is waiting for the check to clear.

I sold my JBL S Center. Not a bad center channel but the bigfoot is a much better speaker. I may end up with the 6.3 in the end. For $600 its a pricey center. I just don't do that much HT, its mostly 2 channel for me, which is why buying the 8.3s over the 6.3 wasn't that hard of a decision.

I hope they all sound great to you. I had the 6.3's across the front but there wasn't enough low end for me. They were very nuetral, you would need a good sub to use all three across the front. It might just be that i am a tower guy. I had def-techs.. bp7002, clr2500, bp2004tl. I think the 6.3 would be a nice center. If the 8.3's don't work out are you going to try the rockets?

I couldn't bring myself to order the Rockets. I would have had to pay up front without a certain delivery date in March. They said maybe March, but maybe April. I got the impression they are in some disarray there. Thats no way to run a business.

I also looked hard at the Axiom M80s. A very nice speaker and certainly a competitor to the Emo ERTs. They've been around for some time now. But I'm willing to try something new, so bring on the 8.3s.

After reading some stuff about Vance Dickason I began to be very impressed with what this guy knows, his designs are awesome. I already have the ERD-1s which are also a design of his. They are a very impressive sounding speaker. I sometimes forget they only cost me $250. If the 8.3s are as good as the ERD-1s scaled up, of course, I won't be considering any other speaker.

And for the same reason you don't like the 6.3 is why I passed on them. I like snappy bass that hits you in the chest and lets you know its there. I don't like polite speakers and the 8.3s sound like its what I' looking for. Everyone thats heard them comments on the heavy presence of good thumping bass.

Years ago I had some air suspension speakers, brand was AR, or Acoustic Research. The bass was as tight as anything I've ever owned. Everything before that and since has been a ported design. It gives good bass but not as tight. This is the primary reason I wanted to try the 8.3s. If I can get that tight bass sound back, the 8.3s won't be going back.

It gives good bass but not as tight. This is the primary reason I wanted to try the 8.3s. If I can get that tight bass sound back, the 8.3s won't be going back.

I wouldn't say I didn't like them, I did. It's a very good speaker. I should have realized with that crossover at 80hz it wouldn't be what I wanted... thats on me. I would highly suggest them. As far as the ERD's, I have those too and their fantastic. I believe they are one of the best surrond speakers you can buy for the money. You can blend them in with most other speaker manufacturers. Let us know what you think of the 8.3's... I should have got those from the start but I was trying to get away from the towers.

I've owned towers for years. I've been through more than a few pairs of them but I've had my current ones for 6-7 years, maybe a bit longer.

I guess I'm a 'tower' guy too. The only thing they do better than a bookshelf or a design like the 6.3 is bass response.

I'm just hoping that the 8.3 has that tight bass response like those AR's I sold so long ago. The only air suspension speaker I've ever owned before buying the 8.3s. I used them with a tube receiver, a Sansui 500A. It had an astounding 20wpc. The ARs were easy to drive so it was a good match, they made sweet music together. Too bad I needed a car, I traded the speakers and receiver off for a car. Worked out pretty good, I had that car for a couple of years. 57 Olds. Big 4 door HT with 3 carbs! I think its against the law to drive something that big and use that much gas.

I am looking at 8.3 main, 6.3 center and 4 of the dipole surrounds - I have an onkyo 905, HT use only...do I need to invest in an amp at this time? Any reviews I can get linked to? I have surfed the emotive forum...its very lacking on 8.3 concrete info besides spec. Room is 17x14 - SVS 12/2+ sub

Thanks for your thoughts - I am considering rockets...but shipping in 2 months damn near sounds like a scam.

REW...most expensive freeware ever...

The Emo speakers are all rated at 4 ohm. Your Onkyo may be able to handle them or not. Its somewhat of a crapshoot. The ERDs would be fine as they don't draw as much power but the ERTs will need more power.

Also, I just got my ERT 8.3s today. I've posted a preliminary review here.

AV123 has the 850s in stock and ready for shipping, plus the price @ 1190 is still on. Not sure about the free shipping.

Had they been in stock 2 weeks ago when I inquired about them, I may well be listening to them rather than the 8.3s right now. Not that I'm second guessing the 8.3s. These things are worth every penny I paid - and more. Its more the vacillating from one speaker to the other over the course of time.

Just thought I would chime in as new Emotiva speaker owner. A person could not pick a better company to do business with. Customer service is top notch and I am happier every day that I chose Emotiva speakers. I'm also a member on the Emotiva Lounge Forums under the same user name. Nice to meet everyone in advance.

Hello ungo4! The emo stuff is great eh? Wonderful build quality in everything they make and for what you get in return for your hard earned dollars is nothing short of fantastic.

I have the UPA-7 amp, the ERT 8.3 towers and the ERD-1 surrounds. I also bought a used LMC-1 prepro to replace the HK AVR 247 that I've been using as pre/pro since getting the UPA-7. That will be here on Monday.

The 8.3 towers are one of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard, and by far the best I've ever owned. I auditioned speakers extensively back in 2000-2001 looking for something I could like for a long time. I heard speakers up to $5000/pr that I could live with but not at the price asked. I ended up with a pair of Infinity Interlude IL50s and a month later a pair of IL40s. The IL40s were the pick of the Interlude series, best all around of the lot. I later bought a pair of IL30s. Great sounding 2 way tower speaker. The IL50s are gone but the 30s and 40s are still here doing BR duty.

I remember well how those $4-5000 speakers sounded, and the 8.3s sound as good as or better than those speakers, and for 1/3 the price. And with inflation I'd have to say these 8.3s would compare with higher priced speakers than that! Just my opinion of course. Word about these speakers will get out, its just a matter of time.

Emotiva has a real winner in these 8.3s.

Which speakers did you buy?
