How do they sound? In a word...Breathtaking! Listening at approx. 80-85dB Small space and nearfield setup.
With the right music, you are there! Sparkling Highs, clean vocals and deep, but not boomy Bass. Sound stage on some recordings is deep and wide. You can see the 2"wide Tweeter Ribbon highlighted on the inside edge.
Replaying CD library is like hearing them for the first time. So much missed before I heard it on Magnepan. Glad I made the choice. I'll use the "Boxed" speakers for Hometheater action and Booms. But the Emotivas and Magnepan LRS are reserved for music appreciation!!!

A big thanks to all who helped me on this journey!
Hi all,

Just happened to notice that my Magnepan LRS has one "Resonance Correcting Button" on the -2 Panel while the -1 Panel has 3-"Resonance Correcting Buttons".

I googled and found the explanation: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=92581.180
Reply 181..."Steve is correct. The dots are to "distribute" resonances so the system will not drone at one particular frequency.
They're certainly not "haphazard" in location and, by design, they should NOT be symmetrical for left/right speakers. This is part of the engineering design of the systems.
The number of dots depends upon the speaker model. The MMG's have a single dot on one speaker and three on the other..."

Whew...that's a relief! Being a "Maggie" newbie I wasn't aware of that
I then found a picture of Wendell and the "Buttons" on this site:
https://www.hifizine.com/2013/09/mag...-a-tiny-giant/

Hope this is helpful to any other "Maggie" newbies that aren't aware of the "Magic Buttons"

Panels have resonance modes and the dots (used to be much more subtle) break up the modes. There are various ways to counteract the resonances; Magnepan uses a simple, brute-force (but effective) approach. A number of ribbon and ESL speakers also use some sort of scheme to break up the panel resonances.

I no longer have my Maggies set up but have done that many, many times on many, many speakers (Maggies and otherwise). Unless you drive them too loudly there should be no pops or crackles. If driven so hard that the panel hits the frame it will creating a buzzing, flapping sound (although the ribbons tend to just rip and die quietly). At lower levels any buzzing is a defect. As I may have mentioned before, buzzing can come from the frame, feet, poorly mounted crossover components, cables touching the frame etc. in addition to a bad panel. If it buzzes at a low level you can usually put your ear near the speaker (few inches) and move around to find the buzzing spot. On new panels your dealer should do this for you.

How to connect resistors to the Maggies?

I am a new owner of Maggie 20.7s, I have had smaller Maggies in the past and have loved them! Unfortunately, the excellence of their product is mismatched with the poor quality of their owners manual. So, I am coming to you folks for help - can someone please tell me how to install the resistors so as to attenuate the tweeter? I have spent quite a bit of time trying to research and/or figure this out, but I don't have a clue!

Apologies if this has been previously covered here - I have tried to search with no success, and with this forum exceeding 200 pages I am hard pressed to find an answer to this question.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer!

See picture below (for 3.7i; the 20.7 pix I found were too small/blurry but I did not spend much time searching). Loosen set screws with supplied Allen wrench, replace the jumper(s) with resistors as desired (one each mid/tweeter for each speaker), tighten set screws..

How to connect resistors to the Maggies?

Thanks Don, for your response. Are there others out there connecting the resistors in other ways? While Don's method works with the "stock" resistors supplied by Magneplanar, other resistors (for example Path audiophile resisitors) do not have long connecting wires and could not be directly connected to the panel on the back of the Maggies - has anyone found a way to connect those type of resistors?

Thanks Again

They don't have leads long enough to span the connectors? You can always add heavy wire extensions to the leads using crimp or solder connectors to add the wires. I have not used resistors for some time; been letting the room correction program do it. Magnepan supplies decent non-inductive resistors and I misdoubt audiophile resistors are really going to sound better at speaker levels (yes, I'm sure there are a myriad of user testimonials touting the efficacy of their new resistors and huge soic improvements, but I'm skeptical...) Many years ago DIY Maggie mods was big business and I did quite a bit of it. Not sure any of them held up in blind testing though there were measurable changes. In some cases the change was audible due to component values and such mucking with the crossover and not due to the components' construction. Stands were (and are) another popular mod with very mixed results (often measurable, rarely audible, and even measurements were inconclusive using music instead of test signals).

How to connect resistors to the Maggies?

Thanks once again Don for your additional insights. Not that you need to, but if you look online for the resistors made by Path, you'll see that the leads on their resistors and only about one inch long, while the resistor is probably 2.5 inches long....Just doesn't work to connect to the panel.
I also appreciate your comments about the multitudes of Maggie tweaks, and am not inclined to dive too far into the rabbit hole. That said, I do have an environment where the Maggie sound is overly bright and the tweeter attenuation mitigates that - but in my case those one ohm tweeters that Maggie provides may be overdoing that. So, (and as in fact suggested by Maggie) I am looking getting resistors with a lower ohm value to end up with less attenuation. Those can be purchased directly from Magnepan, but I'm looking at other possible suppliers - but probably at this point will avoid those choices that will not be easy to connect.
Ultimately it may be that I look more into room correction and/or room treatments - but looking into resistors at lesser ohm values will not be expensive (especially if I avoid "audiophile" resistors), and I can see if that will get me closer to where I need the sound to be.
Again, I appreciate your taking the trouble to share your knowledge!

Has anyone else received their LRSs?

Or is this "2 to 3 weeks" going to turn into several months?

Unlike Decware (another very small high end company) Magnepan does not keep a "build list" that customers can reference online. I asked Eric (customer support/sales) about that last Friday (5/31/19), and he said they are just too small to keep such a list on their website. No comment on that from me. However, he said several April orders would be going out this week (6/3/19). Based on that, I'm hoping mine will ship by mid June. Then, again, they might not. You might want to look at this thread: https://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=mug&m=236877.

It seems that everyone who calls gets a similar answer and still has to wait longer than promised or expected for his/her pair of LRSs.

I ordered when I got home from AXPONA. Only issue is that I have a friend / client flying from SoCal so I have to leave for the airport. I hope UPS is here before 4:30 or so on Wednesday or it will be Monday before I can sign for them. We're very busy out closing on a property Thursday and Friday and gone all day.

What did you future LRS owners end up going with in terms of an amp? Really curious to see if you like them with less than 300WPC like Magnepan has been demo'ing them with.

Only what I already have. The Hegel should have no trouble driving them given that it can drive the Fartin Logans past 110db. True, the Fartin Logans are far more efficient, but a much more difficult load to drive.

I'll certainly try it with the little Yamaha to see if I can get the level I need up here, which is pretty modest given how easily you can hear outside from upstairs.

Glad to hear your'e finally getting the LRSs.
FWIW, my UPS deliveries usually come between 6 and 8 PM.
However, UPS delivered my LRSs at 12:15pm
Good Luck and enjoy!!!

Mine are usually at around 2:00pm. I hope it's early because I have to head to the airport to pick a friend up from SoCal. We're closing on a property for him on Friday so I'll be out all day from tomorrow on.

I presume these have to be signed for at the time of delivery? That leaving a signed note won't work?

Another strange thing is the UPS tracking makes it appear that there is only one coming my way. 46lb for the shipment? That's the weight per side, is it not?

That's one box containing two Maggie LRS panels. The Box has 4 plastic bands, carefully cut those. Next the top box lid lifts off and reveals the LRS panels under cardboard. Carefully remove and proceed. Be sure to save the box if needed to return or repair! Take your time and you'll be good. Couple photos of my unboxing to help. Magnepan encloses a nice detailed repacking instructions. Read this first to help with the complete unboxing procedure.

The 46lb shipping weight is what's throwing me. I thought they were 46 per side?

I'm in a very safe geezerific fossilized neighborhood so I'm not very worried about anyone taking them. Plus out of 120 homes here, only two of us still work so everyone else is staring out their windows with nothing much to do.

Actual weight per is probably closer to 20lbs-including the attached stands.
IMO, it's easy to move around, but at that weight could be a bit unstable. Careful you don't bump it too hard.

While describing the physical weight of the Magnepan LRS, I should note that it is a lightweight in Pounds, but...by Jupiter, it's a HEAVYWEIGHT in Sounds (Not a Heavy Metal Rock speaker to fill a large room, but the LRS (Little Speaker that Could) excels in accurate, wide soundstage and depth)

It wasn't all that good. I wish I had known my place in the cue so maybe I could have moved my schedule around a bit. Now I may have trouble getting them if they're not here by 4:30 or so tomorrow. Next opportunity would be Monday that I'll be here to sign for anything.
