Josh, I hadn't read your post when I did mine, but it Audio Consultants which has the speakers I am referring to. My quandary is that I'm only here until the weekend after Thanksgiving, and don't want to be stampeded into a decision. Also, 25% isn't a really compelling discount unless you're really sure. I doubt they will take any back because they are closing.

Me too. I remember hearing the ESL 57's there -- or was it the ESL 63? I was 11 at the time.

I totally missed Simon's retirement announcement on the homepage. I rarely read the homepage since content was lacking throughout the years. My bookmark for the site was to their Used/Sale section.

Still curious why the demo couldn't be held there since AC was a very long time dealer. I think since Magnepan's birth. Unless Wendell is courting Quintessence as his new dealer.

True here too. Most of what we have are HT installers and two minor players as dealers.

Well, I think you'll be happy with the LRS. And it has a money-back guarantee, so if you aren't, you can always send it back.

I suppose the Acoustat sale is time-limited too, you might want to ask around on some forums to see if anyone has compared it with the .7 or the LRS. Audiogon's speaker forum might be a good place to ask, and also the Planar Asylum.

New 30.7 for condos review

This has some interesting impressions and details that weren't in the original TAS writeup:

https://www.hifiplus.com/articles/co...07-for-condos/

Sounds killer!

And for anyone who hasn't seen it, the original writeup:

I was thinking you could make it out of perforated metal slats, sort of like those things that stores use to cover their windows at night. The magnets would be lateral on the strips, and the diaphragm would just follow along as the speaker was rolled up. :-)

Hi Josh
Seen so many posts of yours over the years on the Planar forum, it's nice to see you at AVS.

A request for Wendell - would he be willing to add a southern stop to his 30.7-for-condos tour, namely the Maggie dealer in Atlanta, HiFi Buys? I don't know if the owner, Alan Jones, would be interested but it'd be nice if some of us in the south could also have an opportunity to demo them. I missed Wendell's Atlanta 30.7 demo due to vacation. I have 20.7's for front LR in a home theater setup BTW.

Steve

Heh, yes, but it was amusing to figure out how it could be done. I'm kind of surprised because I think it would actually work!

Hey, thanks, Steve. I'll pass this on. I know that Wendell is planning to visit more areas, but it's really up in the air now -- the only thing I know is that he said he was planning to swing west after this round.

OK, I passed this on. Wendell replied that "The plan is to cover North America, but we are not making a total commitment. And we won't be able to go to every dealer as we tried to do with the 30.7."

Unfortunately, i had to put them to one side. I won't be able to do much for about a month, as I am basically one handed atm, and not my dominant hand. Even with my improper setup, I did hear promise, and am looking forward to setting them up properly later. Fortunately, I enjoy my Klipsch system, so I'll be OK.

The Klipsch will surely hold you over till then
(Been a fan of Paul Klipsch since I first heard the big Korner Horn blasting away with a 5 watt tube amp in a Hi-Fi "Salon").

Just call me the F'up. I spent a couple hours tonight doing many many REW measurements of the maggotpans. Then saved on my laptop and sent via email so they could be opened on my desktop and posted right here in this very post, right down below all this bullchit that I'm typing right now making all these excuses why there's truly nothing below, but memories.

So what did I do, but copied the wrong file with just one measurement over the top of the file with 15 or so.

Anyway, Wendell is right. Measured pretty damn flat from 48hz to 17k then roll off with huge amounts of toe-in just like Wendell had them set up, but I sure don't like them that way. It really puts the squeeze on soundstage width and focuses everything into a pretty narrow V. I like these with maybe 10 degrees toe-in, and although the measurements don't look as good, I sure like them a lot better. Looking at the results from my REW graphs sure would have spoken to the fact that they measure best doing it Wendell's way. Measurements, sadly, tell us little about the three dimensional aspects available in this hobby. Without that, I'd go find something else to do. Better yet, maybe I need to get my head examined.
