So I have had my RBH R55Ti and a R56Ci as my front stage for about 4 years. Got these during the black friday sale at that time. Now I have a proper media room so I want to get some good matching surrounds. I am currently using some old Elemental Design 6.5" bookshelves as my surrounds. For sub I have a Klipsch R-115SW. This is all powered by a Pioneer Elite. Not sure on the model at the moment.

My room is 9.5'x12'x17' (HxWxL). I would like to go 5.1 to have everything match and then just use them for rear surround work to make it 7.1.

My main use will be for movies, sports and casual TV watching.

If you are a believer in "timbre matching" even the surrounds to the fronts, the closest you can get right now would be the R5:
https://rbhsound.com/r5.php

Personally I'd just go with an NHT SuperZero or SuperOne, currently on sale at half off on Amazon for $57 and $98 apiece respectively.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

As Zorba points out, there really isn't much need to timbre match surrounds, which in most movies provide "occassional" content...unless you enjoy multi channel music. However, the RBH R5 are exception at the price and so that is why I have matching surrounds in my main theater (the older EMPe5b).

Set up #1: EMP e5Ti, e5Ci, and EMP e5Bi surrounds, Outlaw LFM1 Plus sub, SVS NSD SB12 sub, Marantz Slimeline 1504 AV receiver
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and EMPtek10i10i sub, Denon 1910 AV receiver
Set up #3: Philharmonics- BMR in a 2.0 system, music only, Yamaha RXV-363 AV receiver

Anyone with the R5Bis that have upgraded to the R5 bookshelves or the R515? I got the R5Bis on the recommendation here for their large soundstage. Reading the review for the new models I'm wondering what happened. The R5 had a 30° horizontal usable sweet spot, which seemed like a downgrade. The R515, however, had a massive 60° horizontal usable sweet spot but a disappointing 20° vertical one. So, it seemed like they'd be great as front left and rights, but not as a center unless vertically placed. I've been tempted by the current sale and would love to hear about anyone's experiences.

I don't know about the 30 degree on axis sweet spot, but I know the goal with the new models was to extend the range a bit...by all accounts the tweeter was a tad weak and we all know the E5bi needed a subwoofer, as they dropped off at around 65 hz. In particular, the response of the tweeter was improved and I know the woofer was upgraded as well. Why that would lead to a less impressive on/off axis response could be a lot of reasons. I guess maybe better highs and slightly better lows must have come with a trade off.
I am not sure how different the new models are from previous...I have noticed a few time listening to multichannel concert videos that is I stand up, i can hear a difference from my seated position in SQ...and this is the old EMPtek models (e5Ti, E5ci, e5Bi surrounds).

I have 2 SB12 nsd paired with my EMP 1010 subs. The LR are E5ti.

I added the SVS to get to a 5.4.4 system. I think they're a bit better than the 1010 and so much smaller. The pb should go a little lower.

I don't have a dedicated room, the theater is next to the kitchen, so the sound runs all over the house. Do I need 4 subs? No, but I can! The 1010 are so big they won't fit anywhere else. I have another nsd in another room.

I’ve got the E55Ti paired with an Outlaw Ultra-X12, a sub that is comparable to the NSD. Really enjoy the combination, I have a great dynamic sound and thoroughly enjoy watching movies with that.

They are easy to drive with only a couple dips down to around 4-ohm. They would work fine from a regular receiver, especially with a sub crossed over.

I use 60Hz for mine.

Yes, EMPtek and now RBH Impression series speaker, while not high in terms of sensitivity, are not hard to drive to as loud as I ever care to listen to...

Wait e55ti says 6 ohm and 120 hz to 3000 hz in specs, so shouldn’t I cross over at 120 hz?
Again I have the pb-12 nsd sub. I am confused.
Also can I add klipsch r-52c as center and r41 M pair as back channel for 5.1 setting ?

the e55ti are capable speakers down to 50hz...I would cross them at 80hz, if it were me (and that is what I cross me e5Ti over at)

Since e56ci center is no longer in production what can I use for a center speaker . I guess no opportunity to timbre match since already got scs pb12-nsd with e55ti towers
Anyone has a suggestion for center speaker ?

The notion of "timbre match" for a horizontal MTM center with vertical L/R speakers is absurd anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. ANY neutral and competent center speaker will do just fine, as long as you level match it with the other speakers.

Here are 5 proven performers that people often deliberately choose to use with non-matching L/R speakers, for both performance AND value (prices include shipping):

Emotiva C1 ($250)
Emotiva C2 ($370)
Chane A2.4 ($300)
Ascend 340SE ($330)
HTD Level 3 center ($209)
If you're risk-averse, the HTD comes with free return shipping.

Best bang for your buck would be the Sony Core bookshelves, Best Buy has these on sale at $75/pr ... however they are not designed for high volumes if you're one who likes to blast.

Next best value would be the NHT SuperOnes for $104 each from Amazon...these are sold as singles so you could get one as a center too if you're trying to save money. You can get the smaller SuperZeros for surrounds at just $60 apiece.

Sure they would likely work together, depending on how closely you would like to timbre match them. Polk speakers seem to be tuned abit bright and EMPtek more neutral...but the tweeters are similar enough in type that they should play well together.

Okay, now you are putting a folded ribbon in with a soft fabric dome. Likely they would blend okay, however. I heard the HTD level 3 once, briefly and really liked them in a less than ideal setting...well built, looked and sounded very good.

After about 6 months of the new Impression series...
While I think these are likely good speakers, it does not appear that RBH hit a home run with these speakers! The original EMP impression were mentioned in EVERY budget set up thread, but I don't see these getting any mention.

Well they aren't as budget as they used to be. They get mentioned on nearly every Avrant podcast when people ask about speakers.

I have a 515 center mated with a pair of ascend sierra 1's and I am very pleased with the performance. It has great detail and can play plenty loud without strain.

True, but they are still 300/pr (R5) and often 10-20% cheaper when on sale. That still would be budget priced...not much love on AVS for the new Impression series it would seem. Too much competition at that price range? PHil AAs, HTD levels 3, Ascend Acoustic 170s, Emotiva B1s, Chane A1.4s, all in that price range...
