Several folks have posted on here that the tweeter upgrade was a big positive. Hey EMP owners, anyone having an issue with blown tweeters? I was talking to someone recent who went away from EMP and he said that he had blown tweeters on multiple EMP Impression speakers...I have had no such issues, but don't listen at reference levels either!

no failures from mine and there is plenty volume from the EMP array to make demanding listening a pleasure
those Polk ones in the deal thread( Polk LSiM705 Tower) have a good look to them, alot like these EMP speakers, double the money, wonder if they would perform enough better

Just trying to figure out IF there really is an issue with the Impression Tweeter...

No problems here...

I used the Impressions for about 1 1/2 years without any issues with the tweeters, (although I don't feel like I abused the speakers, using them mostly for Home Theater movies). I did upgrade the tweeters in the towers & center channel when that became an option, and felt like it was worth the money. I decided to upgrade to the RBH Signature Reference series so I sold my Impressions last summer...

This is the first I've heard of anyone having issues with the Impression tweeters...

Home Theater: RBH Signature Reference Speakers 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos | Rythmik FV-18 Subs (x2)
LG 65" OLED C7 | Marantz AV7703 | Outlaw 7700 & 5000 | OPPO UPD-203 | XBOX One X
Front Room: RBH 61-SE/r | RBH SX-1010/r Sub | Vizio M602i-B3 | Marantz SR7009 | Denon DVD-1930CI

I used 3 x R5bi speakers as L/C/R for a little over a year and never had any issues with the tweeter. I also didn't listen at really high levels regularly, but that doesn't mean I never pushed them.

Okay, I was told that someone at EMP/RBH admitted the tweeters weren't very good, but that is not what I am heating on this thread...

The specific issue that was told to me was tweeter failure, but not quality of the high end. Of course, more expensive speakers with high quality tweeter have the potential to sound better. I guess I didn't phrase the question correctly- has anyone experienced tweeter failure in their EMP speakers? (had to replace them...)

the inactivity of this thread might say it all...it appears to me that RBH/EMP has completely lost the buzz they generated 10 or so years ago with the release of the original Impression series speaker. The new Impression series gets some good reviews, but very little buzz. FYI, I haven't heard the new impression or E versions...

I would try the above thread. Appears it has more activity.

Yeah, I'm sure the price bump has something to do with it. They recommend them all the time on the AV Rant podcast. I'm pretty happy with my current 5.4.4 setup, 9 of the speakers are EMP, 2 svs subs and rear heights are polks.

So many people have gone for sound bars/BT setups. I wonder if the market for a dedicated system is shrinking.

If you're in New England, PM me.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

I am now about 8 years with my 5eTis and no real complaints for strictly movie usage...as I begin to listen to more and more music/concert DVD/BRs, I might consider upgrading...

Probably partly due to the lack of beauty in their new impression line up. That, and theres a ton more competition now than 10 years ago.
