I have read quite a few reviews of the Tritons that say their tweeter "runs hot"...

I assume they mean "bright"?

Can this be EQ'd to "tame" it?

As simple as turning the tone/treble dial on your receiver/amp down one click?

Shopping List:
TV: LG C9/C10, or Samsung Q90R, or Sony ...
Blu-ray: Panasonic UB820, or Pioneer Elite LX500, or Sony X800M
AVR/Pre-pro: Marantz 8805/7705 or 8012, or Yamaha 5200 or 3080
Speakers: GE Triton One.R, or ML ElectroMotion ESL X

I've not seen reviews mention this. Citation? (Not meant as a dig, I'm genuinely interested)

I moved to GE from a set of Boston Acoustics VR3s from the early 00's. Those were GENUINELY bright. I spent more than ten years trying to tame them. Now that I've experienced what an AMT tweeter is capable of, I doubt I'll ever go back to domes.

My mistake - I shouldn't have said "reviews" - just comments on the Net.

Golden Ear Invisa SPS ($1000 each) inwall set up with HTR7000 ($500 each) in the ceiling was superb. The new BRX bookshelf speaker ($1400/pair) where excellent as well. Fantastic mid range and imaging. Deep soundstage.

Another foot not is that a 10% price increase will become effective 10/1/19. Get your orders into your dealer prior to save the money!

Will spend more time in the sound room maybe tomorrow or Saturday.

Overall another home run by Sandy and his staff.

Thanks for the update. How do you think a BRX bookshelf speaker would work as a center channel? Thinking about doing three of them behind my projector screen.

I will ask tomorrow shoot me an email to remind me however.

It will probably depend on the screen material and what effect that will have on the BRX since they use passive radiators to squeeze out more low end.

Comb filtering, phase alignment and driver excursion all affect if a speaker will work well or not behind an AT screen.

Due respect, but the folks claiming it's "too hot" seem to only be looking at graphs.

I've listened to speakers that were definitely too bright, and Tritons. I disagree with their assessment.

Again, go listen and decide for yourself. Don't cost nothin'.

What am I missing by going with the One.R instead of the Reference...?

I have been told just some extra bass...

Would the One.R be easier to run (having two 5.25" drivers and the tweeter - instead of the two 6" drivers and the tweeter) than the Ref...?

I push the 0ne.r's with a Parasound A23+...160wpc...sounds fantastic. That said, i'm glad my dealer didn't have the T.REf on the floor...I know my resolve woulda been tested to the max

I really think that, as with any accurate speaker, it's largely source dependent. I have a 96/24 copy of Kenny Burrell's "Midnight Blue" that will take your breath away thru the One.R's…the opener "Chitlins Con Carne" begins with bongos that sounds like they're in the room. Stevie Ray Vaughn's version is equally stunning, as is "Little Wing". Too many examples to list here sound fantastic. But there are tracks that seem "bright" as well, tho I believe that the recording is the culprit. That said my prior speakers (Focal 836w) seemed a little more forgiving in that area, but the rewards were not as great when the recording was well done. I guess you makes yer choices and you takes yer picks...

edit...when I said "there are tracks that seem bright" I wanted to clarify that these are not on "Midnight Blue" but various other recordings

at the zenith of his nadir...

The sensitivity rating tells you how "easy" a speaker is to run. The Reference's sensitivity is 93.25db vs. 92db for the One.R, so no, the Reference would be easier to run, but only slightly.

Is that due to tariffs (i.e., if the tariffs go away will they come down in price again) or just permanent price change?

Yes, from what I understand.

Once prices go up they rarely if ever go down unless an item is not selling or discounted.

There of course where more dynamic demonstrations but at 5 to 10x the cost.

Wireless speakers (really wireless)

I have a pair of Triton 2's I've had since 2011. Love them, and have no intention of changing them soon. I've just retired to Santa Fe and I've been setting up my system, but I've run into a dilemma. The Tritons are setup ok, but the locations for the surround speakers have no way of running the speaker cables in the walls or ceiling (the house being classic Santa Fe adobe design), and there is no 110 VAC in their location either.

I would like to connect the surround outputs from my receiver to a Wifi device and hence over the ether to my surrounds which have an amplifier to power them. I'd like the speakers to be in-wall GoldenEars, with a rechargeable battery hidden in the wall. Does such a Wifi system exist? I have not been able to identify one. I don't want to go the Sonos route, I want to do it with GoldenEars, but be totally wireless.

Probably close to it in upper mid bass and lower mid freq.

You need a decent amp to make them shine.

Well, that is kind of the opposite of what Sandy is saying in his videos...

And I am looking at bridging 2 amp channels to each of them - and if they get down to 2-ohms - that's a no go...
