I know video is the thing these days, it drives site traffic and increases revenue, but the only thing I will really watch in terms of informative content are "how to" videos that go step by step. If you MUST do videos, do some scripting as well as forethought in setting up shots and use of different camera angles. And learn to edit. Okay, now I'm done.

agreed.. i'll take it 1 step further, i am getting to the point of disregarding the usefulness of speaker reviews as a whole .. if they don't include graphs they at that point are 100% opinion.. which of course leads me to believe that they are paid for in the form of "goodies" to reviewers which makes negative reviews impossible at some point , which leads to of course, all of a reviewers work to be useless.. this to me includes everybody from Thomas & stereo to Zeos to Steve Guttenburg...... stereophile reviews are the only ones i take with any sense of reality being in order, at least they have graphs...to bring this post "home" the bmr "road trip" was the exact *opposite * of this .. actual *consumer* hobbyists being exposed with no long term gain involved , just the product and *consumer ears*.... this being a far more valuable reference point than Zeos Thomas & stereo ect...

Ageed. I come here and Audioholics to read about people's experience with speakers, and other equipment. Professional reviews are nice, but I take 'em with a grain of salt. The BMR roadshow sold me on the BMRs, though earlier customer "reviews" had me looking.

i wish more speaker sellers and companies would do road shows .. they probably disrespect the consumer to the point of seeing them as useless in comparison to a youtube review though..

Using fast forward options on youtube review and other advise types of content adds much to their tolerably.

Unless it's music, I FF everything on youtube to at least 1.25 speed, but more often up to 1.5 or 1.75 speed. I don't have time to be watching that stuff at regular speed. And you really don't need to.

Unless you're watching videos about physics or higher mathematics or something. Then I need to slow those down to x.75 speed.

I doubt it. The added attention from the very positive audioholics review will already give him more than he can handle in the foreseeable future, I suspect.

i too think Dennis might want to decide at some point in the future how much business he want's , seems to me he is kind of doing this a cross bred exercise of audio "community service" and part hobby.. if we read his recent posts it's quite apparent he wasn't making much (if any money) and yet he donates $50 to charity for every 3 way speaker ordered.. imo , the guy has been doing some heavy lifting at his own expense , simply because he loves music and his work..

To play Devil's Advocate, it doesn't have to be highly edited. Some people prefer the style of feeling like you're actually there. That's real life.

*ducks*

But I agree some videos really could be shorter and to the point. Regarding Z Reviews, people watch for the personality, mostly, though he does know what he's talking about, most of the time.

Granted, I haven't watched them all, but I've seen enough to know he is at least not on board with most audiophile snake oil, and chooses good products.

I just stopped by the Philharmonic audio website and noticed this posted at the top

We are unable to take new orders at this time. We apologize for the delay in processing existing orders. Thank you for your patience!

Not sure when this was added but I had been stopping by every few days looking for updates. I might have missed it before but thought I'd share.

i'll give you that , but he was off, way off, when it came to the emotiva b1 .. on several issues, he said the tweeter could get harsh.. nope( but i got fooled on that as well for about 2-3 days).. he said power handling wasn't an issue either , wrong again.. he was fairly accurate on most of his wharfedale 10.1 comments though .. ok , i'll give him 50%

That's odd because he loved the 6s. I personally used the shelf switch to bring the tweeters down a notch. They were a bit too strong, but harsh is not the word I would use.

I honestly feel that Dennis LOVES this hobby and has a sense of family with all those who share his passion.

He flew out to the left coast...on his own dime...to help us setup, measure and evaluate a variety of speakers for our GTG...none of which were his own. He wasn't selling anything...just being a part of the family and sharing the joy of loudspeaker discovery. As far as I can tell, he has no audio biases or agendas. He certainly never was in the business for the money. And yes, he donated a large portion of proceeds to another of his joys, symphonic music. I think his playing the viola was just an excuse to be part of that symphony family.

Even before he retired, he designed, made, and shared those things with anyone who was interested. Dennis, to me, is a world class human being and I so fervently hope he gains health and well-being soon. He gives so much to our hobby...and gave so much to me personally. I miss his presence here terribly.

MARGARITAS,

having never met Dennis in person, I can agree with this sentiment...he has gone overboard to be helpful to me and dozens of others via this forum, emails and person communication. And to have a master of speaker design actually design, assemble, test and ship your speakers is rare!

I hope Dennis is recovering well, and not thinking about us or Salk Sound, at least for the short-term. I participated in the BMR road show and look forward to purchasing a pair in the future. Godspeed, Dennis.

I have been in contact with both Dennis' sister and Bruce, who was helping Dennis at Philharmonic and recently moved back to Florida.

I do not know Dennis' long-term prognosis. But I do know that Philharmonic Audio is not accepting new orders at this time.

I have volunteered to complete the projects we were working on with Dennis. We have at least eight projects we were working on. Since we have done final assembly on projects for him in the past, we know what parts are involved and have the schematics for the crossovers. So finishing up those orders is not a problem for us. Hopefully, we'll get Dennis' approval to complete these projects shortly.

As for the BMR's, I am told that the pre-built cabinets he was using are no longer available. So any BMR project going forward would likely have to be a "custom" project (which we normally build). It is unknown at this time if Dennis will be able to provide us with permission to accept new BMR or Phil 3 orders on his behalf.

One issue complicating things is Dennis' pricing. As you may know, he was operating out of his home and using his own labor. The problem was that the number of orders he was getting was too much for two people (Dennis and Bruce) to handle and he did not build enough labor into his pricing in order to hire more help. (I think this contributed to the stress that brought the situation on.) So even if we were able to accept orders, our higher overhead would result in higher prices than Dennis was charging.

We hope to get a resolution on the projects we have been working on so that we can deliver those projects to customers. This, of course, would require us to work directly with his affected customers since Dennis will not be available to process payments, etc.

This is a fluid situation and I'll try and keep you updated as we move forward.

Absolutely agree. Hopefully, if that happens, the BMR design can continue though. Just too good a speaker to let die.

It's awesome that you're stepping into the breach like this.

Most people here probably already know this, but I believe Dennis had a hand in helping design some of the Salk speakers. Also, I've seen Salk speakers in person and they're absolutely gorgeous. So, if anyone needs a bit of a Dennis fix while he's on hiatus, check out the Salk lineup. Yeah, they may cost more, but look at the cabinets! You're not just getting speakers, you're getting artwork.

As I have one of "those projects," I just want to say again, @jsalk : Thank you! I am supremely grateful for your part in this.
My best to Dennis, and to you, Jim.
Cheers!
