Also, my Dynaudio and Genelec are not DSP room-corrected at all, but do have some built-in DSP "tone controls" that I don't use. Dirac Live can't do any of the above so the baby is safe. DSP-based room correction is the same thing as digital driver/enclosure/crossover optimization (or analog in the case of Neumann/Focal/etc.)
Perfect time alignment is what I was referring to - it can be done with external DSP such as Dirac. Tone controls are also available, but better is to tweak the target curve.

Not sure why there would be any difference in cabinets - can you elaborate more on that?

I do believe that active crossovers can be superior. The Mackies on my desk sound great.

All I'm saying is, for those of us with such systems available, for example in my theater room, the difference between active and passive speakers is much less. It closes the gap.

Actives can correct for cabinet diffraction and can use a custom-molded baffle to make this even easier. Kef LS50's do something similar in a passive manner, but using active electronics would take it a step higher.

I certainly agree that room-correction can help in problematic rooms, I have no issues with that and use it in my main room. Also, I like passives very much. But there are some inherent advantages to going active, especially in a stereo-only set-up.

For my multi-channel system, I have passive Dynaudios that are room-corrected by YPAO and they sound very good as well. I was just pointing out an alternative for those who might want the dynamics/bass/accuracy of large 3-way passive monitors in a smaller, affordable, active 2-way package. I've been very impressed with these actives and by all accounts, your Mackies are excellent as well.

Speakers: M040 | M16 | LS50 | Reva-2| BM5 mk3 | X18 | X14
Sub: VTF-2 mk5
Amps: HK 3490 | TSR-7810

Wow, I'd actually consider option (3) and assembled crossovers. That's pretty darn close to the finished product.

That would be great as these are on my radar for a 2 ch project and I would want a curved top cabinet.

I'm pretty sure the finished cabinets won't be curved. Those are best done in a factory.

Yes, more reasons why a parts only DIY option is appealing. Can make my own cabinet with a curved top.

I would love to get drivers or list of drivers, schematics, cabinet plans, and assembled crossovers as I think it is the most delicate and vital part of the speakers.

I’ve been wanting to know for a long time what happened to the Road Show BMRs.
Some lucky bastard (or person)probably ended up with the best deal of the year!

Actually, another speaker manufacturer who shall remain nameless was eager to hear the BMR's. He's had them for about a month, so I should be getting them back pretty soon. I haven't decided what I want to do with them yet.

As I mentioned, my friend Ray bought the Sierra 2 about 3 months before he retired and moved South...so while my PHil-BMR and S2s were never in the same room, I got a fair amount of time hearing both. Both excellent speakers, but I wouldn't trade 1 for 1, I would need draft picks! Really, the only thing the S2 had on the Phils were cabinet looks...

So it's happening???? I'm really interested in having an option to try the BMRs at a price point lower than Jim's offering. While I love Jim's work, I can't afford Song3s AND BMRs, too.
