Dennis continues to be "in the news." Part 2 of Audioholics video series on "narrow vs. wide dispersion" is up, and once again the BMR is featured heavily, culminating in being the first speaker named as an "Audioholics recommended" wide dispersion speaker, even at the increased Salk prices.

What did the comparison of Klippel vs your method tell you?
If you venture outside this thread then you will see that there is a large world of audio.

I haven't read all of the ASR tests, but has Amir ever liked something that didn't measure well with his equipment?

Just curious...

Agree... I enjoy following his AH thread as he works through getting his test rig and protocol up and running. He's using the Buchy S400 so he can compare to Amirs testing.

The obverse is actually true and has been the subject of a lot of debate on his forum. On several occasions he has disliked and refused to recommend speakers that measured well using his Klippel machine. I don't think he's ever endorsed or enjoyed a speaker that measured badly, with the possible exception of the stock Pioneer BS22, which he thought were respectable speakers for a budget design despite less than stellar measurements.

Okay, just sent you a formal email. I hope to buy the Monoprice towers this month, but might buy the crossover parts and get that done first.

I came across an ad for this speaker a couple of weeks ago on instagram. It’s a 3way with a coax ribbon tweeter/midrange which I’ve never seen before. Would love to hear them some day.
Any thoughts from the ribbon fans?

Interesting.

He certainly hasn't been kind to Ascends in his recommendations.

I think that's because Dave tends to voice his speakers a little brighter than I do, and Amir likes a mellower sound.

That's good to know as I prefer a less brighter presentation when listening to music for more than an hour.

i have a pair of older piega's, (p5 mkii ltd), in the main rig presently. really a great sound, imo. nothing like a coax ribbon playing everything from 450hz on up.

Hey guys, I'm considering building five BR-1s with Dennis's mod, Morel tweets and XO. What do I have to purchase at PE, the whole kits even though I won't be using the tweets and what about XO components, sorry if this is an elementary question. I'm really downsizing my entire setup, I've already sold my PSA V3611 subs, external amps, Oppo 203 and NIB Denon 4K AVR.

What I have left is three LCR bamboo 1099s and matching bamboo Volt 8s, I had the boxes custom built from a cabinet maker and I did the rest, 16 element XO board for the 1099s, I plan on listing these soon as well. Thanks for your time, look forward to your replies.

Best Regards, Jeffrey

To start here are the Morel, BR-1 cabinets and Dayton woofer. Don't know what Dennis updated AA+ xover is so can't help there.

Hi Ahblaza! I hope you are doing well!

IIRC Dennis hinted above that buying the components separately might be wiser than buying the BR-1 Full Kit plus the extra stuff you need. Depending on how close to "spec" you want to get with XO components, it might be a crapshoot.

I've already got the tweets on hand, and woofers and XOs pulled... all my necessary XO components on hand based on what I can pull from the original boards of my AAs. I literally just need a free weekend to sit down and do the Soldering!

The Old Dayton Tweet AAs sound Real Nice, but I am eager to get the Morels installed and use them in a separate Bedroom System rather than my main Rig. (Thanks Dennis!)

Beyond that, I'm toying with rebuilding the cabinets just for the sake of experience! I've got the tools, and a serious itch to try my hand at veneering and finishing my own cabinets!

Anyway, it is a worthwhile pursuit, I think, and wish you the best in your run at it!

Please PM me when you are ready to sell your other speakers. Depending on the timing, I may be interested in checking those out!

Best to you!

I can't tell whether there's any confusion here or not. If anyone wants to build a pair of the AA + mod, they would buy the BR-1 cabinets separately from Parts Express + the DC160--08 woofers. There would be no point in ordering the whole BR-1 kit because you would throw most of it away. If you already own a pair of the original BR-1 AA's, the woofer circuit is carried over unchanged in the plus version. However, the tweeter is completely different and pretty complex. You would need to write to me to get the schematics. The Morel tweeters can be sourced from Madisound.
