You mean, with the app? You can adjust the curve for the subs, independent from the curves for the other speakers. I pull up the lowest end of the curve, as the default tries to roll it off pretty quickly below about 30 Hz.

Is there any way you could post a picture of your graph?I'm more of a visual learner.

I realize all rooms are different.Just want to get an idea of what yours looks like.

Thanks

i think the dip will not be there if you use audyssey flat instead of reference correct?

I think the midrange compensation dip is independent of the flat vs reference choice. In the receiver, you can only choose Flat vs Reference. In the app, you can turn MRC on or off for each set of speakers, and that selection remains in place, regardless of whether you're in Flat or Reference mode.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

on serious note, just so yall will know, the 520c has been on sale for quite a few days now for 199
id say knowing jbl and their , peek a boo style of sales, it will go off tonight.
never seen a company that blows stuff out at half price for a few days , then goes back to full price like they do......
Smart price monitor Chrome extension just alerted me that the JBL 590s are half off now. I told myself if they are ever half off again I would buy. Did not expect them to go half off so soon.

I feel infinite

from what ive been reading in the multieq app thread mrc is only used in the reference setting not the flat. but they say when using the app mrc is on with both reference and flat unless you turn it off. this seems really odd to me. flat is just that, a flat curve and should not have a dip or peak anywhere in the spectrum or at least as close as it can be.

Thanks for the info!

I think this sort of makes sense. Without the app, Denon probably wanted to give folks a way to turn off MRC, so it sounds like the Audyssey Flat option does that. With the app, the user has more flexibility. So you can leave MRC on, if you're so inclined, but have the curve be otherwise flat. Or you can turn it off and have it flat all the way.

My understanding is that MRC is helpful for speakers that don't handle the crossover as well as our 590 speakers.

I checked the SVS "merlin" and it recommends their 4000 series for pairing with JBL 590. Those suckers start at $1,500!

when i chatted with jbl about what surrounds they suggested for the 580s i asked about the 530s they said they are out of stock and dont know when they will be back in so according to them they are not discontinued.

wow, 24" subs?, i cant imagine ever needing anything that big. i use to have a soundstream 15" car sub in a ported box in my living room and i was testing it out early one morning and a neighbor about 200 yards from me sent her grandson down to ask if i would turn it down....lol. i think all the stuff on my walls would be on the floor with 24 inch subs...lol.

im just running 2 mcs95 8" boston acoustic subs right now. they sound good to me but below 30hz there is not much if any.

i just ordered a massive audio gtx12 and a 1.5 cu ft sealed box to try out. im going to use a crest audio vs450 to drive it. i dont think i will ever spend 1500 on sub for mostly one reason im poor and i dont see that changing anytime soon... i would imagine there are plenty of car subs that will compete or surpass svs for 1/3 of that if you are into diy.

They told me the same thing over two years ago. I spoke to a JBL reseller for further insight and was told the 530s are never coming back.

I have a dedicated theater room. You get to feel the movie and watch it Its a lot of fun and a visceral experience. We all start somewhere and your off to a great start. Check out the DIY section for great sub builds for modest costs.

i hope the 530s come back and they didnt just say that.

i wish i had a dedicated theater room but that will never happen. i would even like to sound proof my living room but if it doesnt look a certain way my wife wont have it. and to make it look like she wants will cost a fortune so that probably wont happen either.

i get to feel the movie with my 8s too...lol, i bet you get moved by the movie...lol. does your hair part when the bass hits?...lol.

i started in the 90s...lol. i use to read home theater mag and car audio mag religiously back in the 90s. i even built my own towers (with switched monopole, bipole, dipole) , surrounds and subs back then with speakers and parts i ordered from mcm. ive built many sub boxes for many different car subs for myself and friends, i use to enjoy that, but not so much anymore. life gets in the way alot so i gave up home theater and car audio for a long time and just in the past 5 years im getting back into home theater.

Actually I'm still a pretty fresh noob when it comes to all of the bass stuff. I have two crazy powerful subs as a "futureproof" for when I have a dedicated space. My current room is only 10x11 and just under 1000 cu ft, so the subs are only dialed up to about 30% gain. I'm 99% sure my subs aren't even calibrated correctly, so there's a very good chance I'm missing out on the "bass massage" But it works for me right now. There's a long way for me to go to become a bass head... but I certainly appreciate the sheer power the 590's have by themselves!

How would you guys compare the 590s to something like the Emotiva T2?

Would the Studio 230s be a good match, tonally, to be used as sides and rears with the 590s?

i think the 230s are as close as your going to get unless you use the 520c and mount it or get 580s or 590s. im using the studio 210s as surrounds and they sound ok before that i was using nht sb2s. i think the 210s match my 580s better than the sb2s and/or they have better dispersion.

i was going to get the 230s or 2 520c if the 530s dont come back.

I'm increasingly fond of having 590 towers as surrounds. Multichannel stereo is incredible, especially now that I've moved them to the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. Having the surrounds behind me made me feel like I was in the middle of the performers, which felt a little odd, honestly, but I'm sure others would love it. Having them at 3 and 9, though, is a perfect balance for me. The soundstage is pretty amazing now. Not all songs benefit from "upmixing" to 5.1, but a lot of instrumental stuff does, especially classical. My favorite song so far in multichannel is "Jazz Variants" by the O-Zone Percussion Group. Unbelievably true-to-life.

Yep! I started with just front left/right last year, then added another as a center (behind my TV, but it works surprisingly well) and then added two more as surrounds just last week. I was inspired by posts here and in a couple of other threads, talking about how incredible matching towers sound. I've gotta admit, it's pretty awesome.

I should clarify: I have five 590 speakers. I never got much out of 7.1, so I doubt I'll go that far with it!

I can add that 7.1.4 music sounds truly amazing.

I find that I'm going back and forth.

Some rock, EDM, RnB music already has a good, wide soundstage in two-channel mode. Giving that music the 5.1 treatment can make the soundstage seem artificially big. It's almost like the music is being performed by giants playing enormous instruments.

Other music in these same genres sounds a little "closed in" with just two speakers. For that stuff, the 5.1 treatment is a big help, and can actually sound much more natural (much more like you're there in the room with the performers) than 2.1.

But I haven't found classical music yet that didn't benefit from 5.1 (again, with my surrounds to the side rather than behind me.)

I know that not everyone here likes Audyssey. But I found that it was critical to rerun it when I repositioned my surrounds. Otherwise, I was getting a slight echo effect (because I'd changed the distance to MLP) that was fine for classical, but distracting for other genres.
