If you have the 590s are you happy with them?

I love the 590s. I have them for the LCR. I have the center sideways. I used to have the 520 but the 590 makes an even better center. I have them on two short stands for the center. My surround backs are cheap insignia speakers and my side surrounds are DIY Volt 6. I am going to get rid of the insignia and use the 530s. Hopefully it will work out for me otherwise I will be selling these 530. Hopefully it won’t be difficult.

I use denon x4300 for receiver and a NAD T763 as power amp for all the main channels so that I can use the denon amp for just the atmos in ceiling speakers.

How do you place it on the side with the stands? Don't they look odd? Also I saw another thread where people are saying 590s sound like Klipsch. I am worried as I bought them sight unseen based on recommendations in this forum.

They don’t look odd to me because I have a dedicated room with a projector. I removed the feet. The side is a little slanted so when you put on short stands, they naturally tilt up and worked out well for me.

While the JBL and klipsch use horns, the JBL are a lot more listenable. I used to own the klipsch RF5 for 12 years and finally upgraded to the jbls. The first week I did not hear a huge difference but then the 590s opened up. The main difference is I don’t have ear fatigue after listening to good music at fairly high volume. It is good to place it properly though and calibrate it. Provide it plenty of clean power.

Don't believe everything you read. I own both JBL and Klipsch speakers and I don't think you would confuse one for the other. The JBL's have better imaging and a amore dynamic sound to them. For $469 apiece shipped the 590's punch way above their price point.

Yes there are better speakers but your gonna pay more.

JBL Studio Series 5 - The Magic Guaranteed

One of the best measures of the quality of the speaker is the lack of ear fatigue and a smile factor after a listening session. I would use both music and movies to judge. For me the jbls are great for all kinds of music including classical, jazz, rock, electronic as well as movies.

Alright, I have a sickness. A JBL Studio 5 sickness. Even though I've already got seven 590s and two 580s, I just placed an order for four of the 530s. This is just too good of a bargain to pass up, considering how well-reviewed they've been and the prices people have been getting for used ones. I figure they'll be perfect for future front and rear height channels.

This, despite the fact that I still haven't mounted my four SCS-8 ceiling speakers, nor do I have a processor capable of a 9.1.8 arrangement.

It's a sickness I tell you.

Scott

will there be a noticeable diff if these are for rears ?
I believe the 530s use the same 1" compression drivers as the 590s and 580s, while the 230s and 270s both use 1" dome tweeters.

The 270s have an 8" woofer and 4" midrange, the 230 has a single 6.5" woofer. The 530 has a 5.25" woofer. If you're going to match them with a good sub, I don't think there's a disadvantage to the 530s. Both the 230s and 270s are more efficient and 8 ohms vs. the 6 ohm 530s.

Personally, I'd go with the 530s.

Found some measurements for the Studio series. These look like they would be great for HT:

Wall mount you want the Studio 210’s. They have keyhole brackets and dual port but each port fires to the side.

Just saw the 530s are back in stock and also on sale.
I have the 230s for surround on my 5.1.4 setup with 590s as fronts.
How much of an upgrade will it be to replace the 230s with the 590s?

I know 530s are considered one of best bookshelfs at this price range but perhaps partially because they were not available for last 2 years from JBL and the demand skyrocketed.

Denon 4400

At that price it may be almost criminal NOT to try them! People have been selling them used for at least double that price. From what I have read they are not too bright...maybe a tad on the bright side of neutral....but yes that is all in the ear of the beholder I guess.

You haven't mounted those SCS8'S yet? You are really missing out on some great Atmos Sound from them.

Someone mentioned speaking to JBL months ago and they were told then that there would be a run in June. It came true. I have a feeling that still have all the machines to well machine them. That and they sold a good amount of 590's, 580's, and 520c's over the last year or so with all the super sales. The one speaker they didn't have in stock during all those sales were the 530's. So they estimated the demand and are making a run of them. Good for us. I wouldn't anticipate them being around long.

This was my thought too, with 570s gone (or will they show up too, haha), 580s not being browse-able on the site, and the changes to JBL's offerings.

I almost wonder if this stock is old and was recently found. I'd be amazed if they were new manufacturing runs...but what do I know? So I just bought them now to be sure.

I don't think they are new old stock. A few slick individuals inquired about them months ago and JBL told them June availability. If they had them they would have been shipping months ago. They did another run of them for reasons above. Frustrating as many of us plucked from the 2 series for rears, surrounds, etc. But maybe that was the whole point.

If I would have known this for 100%, my plans would have definitely been different. I would have not bought (4) 270's for surrounds and rears. I would have waited then bought 8-12 of the 530's. But I'm biting the bullet. Moving my 270's to my MB for L/R and surrounds in a 5.1 setup (will expand to 5.2.2 later). Putting the 530's where they should be, as surrounds and rears in my HT. I hated paying an extra $100 for a 235c for my MB rather than a 520c. But I just did that. Studio 2 in the MB, Studio 5 in the HT. Sure would have been nice to have 530's as L/R and surrounds in my MB. But first world problems. Is what it is. I'm just happy JBL is bringing back the 530's. We suck it up and be happy!!!!

You have a point, might be right on all that. I don't know much about business models for companies of such soze, but the stop and go idea does stand out as unexpected to me in this case.

You got two awesome listening spots in your place. You going to put the 530s on stands? What powers your MB system?

You got two awesome listening spots in your place. You going to put the 530s on stands? What powers your MB system?

Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk

530's will be going on stands yes, in my HT. SR8012 powers the HT. X3500H powers the MB. Moving my 270's to the MB will allow me to mount Atmos modules on top of them in the future for 5.2.2. I am a bit concerned about going from 270's to 530's for surrounds and rears in the HT, but the ability to match the 7.1 up with all the same bi-radial horns is too much for me to pass up at these prices. Those horns are magical.

I'm not made of money by any stretch. Just another working stiff. The JBL slash prices have enabled me to do all this, as well as killer deals on everything really. My DD is the MB. I get to the HT on weekends and if I am lucky one day during the week. Stay extremely busy so the MB and a film is how I wind down every day and get to sleep for another day of beatings! I don't like a large panel in my living room and I only spend time in there if someone is over. Had the millennials on their phones hadn't driven me out of the commercial cineplexes (XD and IMAX) I wouldn't be doing any of this. I snapped early this year and ain't going back, ever.

HT 7.1.4: Sony X940E, Marantz SR8012, LR: JBL Studio 580's, C: JBL Studio 520c, Surrounds and Rears: JBL Studio 530's, ATMOS: JBL Studio 210's, Sub: HSU VTF-3 mk5
MB 5.1: Sony 55" X950G, Denon X3500H, LR/Surrounds: JBL Studio 270’s, C: JBL Studio 235c, Sub: HSU VTF-2 mk5
Living Room/Office 5.1: Sony 49" 900E's, HTNT5's with wireless rear channels

I really hope JBL keeps making the Studio 5 line. I know they are somewhat big and ugly to some people but they are one of my favorite sounding speakers for their price point, and when they are on crazy sales they are very hard to beat for the money. One of Greg Timbers last leagacies before being let go by JBL.

Not really bright to me -- they are more refined than one might think -- and some really nice bass -- they also used 18 parts in the crossover

Kind of weird that JBL would have a 50% off sale right out of the gate on the 530s considering all of the pent up demand for them, no? (not that I'm complaining!)

Very surprising indeed. These speakers have been fetching much higher prices on the used market.......granted the lack of any more new stock certainly drove that, but still....

the price is tough to turn down.. i'll think on it a while.. i'm looking for smooth, refined and mostly neutral...any kinda harsh ruins my listen...

+/- 1.3 db from 100 hz to 10 khz is really nice -- however take your time -- they should be around for a while, if the sales are good, they should continue to rebuild like the Infinity Reference

i was thinking the same thing.. they aren't going anywhere till after the holidays, harman won't want to blow all that potential money..in the meantime i'm going to save my pennies and look for a higher end deal..dyn x14's for $799 has been calling my name.. maybe some salk's or phil's will pop up used..i'm kinda liking what i have right now, so "no hurry , no worries"...
