I don’t really have the room for the 530 since my surrounds need to be wall mounted. I have a door on one inside and a window one the other. May be I can put these on a shelf for the surround backs. I ordered them because they are so rare! Oops. My LCR are 590s. I also have two 560p subs. My surround backs are cheap insignias that I would like to replace but I feel like the 530s are being wasted there!

Look at the pictures for the dual ports firing to the side. I use these for ATMOS and they would be excellent if you need wall mount. I'm using Studio 270's currently (soon to be replaced by 530's) and they blend nicely. At $200 a pair on Amazon I'd buy 2 sets if you need them for surrounds and rears. I mixed and matches Studio 2's and Studio 5's and they play nice together as long as your LCR are Studio 5 series. The Studio 210's are so good I contemplate buying 2 spare pairs. They have keyhole brackets for wall mounting.

Aren't 210s less effective than 230s?

The 230 is a slightly better speaker overall but as surrounds and rears you'll unlikely even be able to tell the difference. The 210's have keyhole brackets and side firing ports so they are made to be wall mounted. Ever tried wall mounting a bookshelf speaker? Not fun. If you can use speaker stands it's a no brainer 530 or 230. But if you need to wall mount the 210's are excellent.

They are very different speakers with different design goals. I think you would really need to listen to both. My personal opinion is that the JBL's have better imaging and might be a little more dynamic for home theater. The ML's might be preferred for music. Buy everyone is different.

So I am in the market for new speakers. I am building a new house and will be building a dedicated media room. I had a theater in the old house and had a 7.1 Rocket system for years, then went with a 7.1 Chane setup.

I have been looking at either going with chane again (2.4x3 4.4 on wall x4) or RSL (CG25 x3 and CG3 x4) for the new setup. JBL was never on my radar but finding this thread and the sale price of these speakers wondering how they would compare?

I am thinking maybe either 530x7 or 590x3 with 530x4 for surrounds. Not sure if I am going with AT screen and wall at this point. Any insight as to how the JBL compares? Also any idea how long this deal will last?

I currently own RSL's and JBL (590+530). At the sale prices there really is no comparison, the 590/530 combo would be me choice hands down. But keep in mind the 590's and 530's are not small. Make sure you are okay with the size.

Oh and get the AT screen if you can. There is nothing like three big tower speakers behind the screen with the sound coming right at you.

The size of the 530’s is fine, no bigger than the chane’s i had. The 590’s look huge. And they are almost 17” deep so would probably need a 2 ft false wall to give them some breathing room in the back, or plug the ports. Aesthetically that deep a false wall creates some issue in the space. That’s one advantage of the RSL, they are front ported.

I will be crossing over to a sub or two. This will be for an HT setup. Room is 13.5x17x9. Does plugging the ports do anything to the overall sound other than limit bass extension?

I predicted this once they became available again. You can only hope the demand (the 530's lasted 2 whole days because everyone on here is murdering them) will push them to make another run of them. Call JBL and ask. They may have a future date for another shipment.

You can still buy 520c center and 590 LR.

This was probably a trial balloon by JBL. Stoke the fires, let it simmer, then release again before Thanksgiving. They might even consider an update or redesign if it truly sold out faster than expected.

IMO, there's a market for small, affordable true horn-loaded tweeters/compression drivers. Klipsch and HSU are the only other ones I can think of that currently do this. A Klipsch 500M vs JBL 530 vs HSU HB1 shootout would be fascinating to me.

Someone please do this!

HSU and most Klipsch up to a certain price level use horn loaded dome tweeters, not true compression tweeters. The JBL 5 series and JBL Synthesis line use true compression tweeters and so do PSA and JTR.

I was contemplating canceling my 530 order and ordering the 210 instead for my surround backs and I got an email from JBL saying my 530s have shipped already.

There are side clamping wall mounts that would work with the 530’s and would help in bringing them off the wall a bit for the rear port.

I know, hence the "true horn-loaded tweeters/compression drivers" in my quoted post.

I don't think there are any true compression drivers available at these JBL sale prices which is quite remarkable. However, the real benefit of a compression driver in this case isn't max SPL or increased sensitivity, since both will be hobbled by the 5 inch woofer, but instead the horn and its dispersion characteristics.

In that regard, comparing the JBL to Klipsch/Hsu is a valid one and I can't think of any other true horn-based designs in this price range.

Now that my 530s are shipped, any suggestions for a wall mount with clamp grips that people recommend. I have wall mounts in my living room for my Kef Q100. But those are smaller speakers.

These speakers don't really need to be toed in at all due to their wide dispersion. I mean you can certainly try it but they may actually sound better firing straight ahead.

Yes really fast -- now I have to wait on the future, as I was seriously thinking about buying them again -- and I wanted to open them up to see if they are the same with no mods, as the original had 18 parts to the crossover -- and they used good quality crossover parts.

No, that would be rare -- I just want to look inside again -- even at $299 and in original form, JBL (Harman) is still making money on them. They are one of the best sounding bookshelf speakers that I have owned. A rare JBL gem.
