IMHO, for ME. Like I have expressed many times. Having matching tower speakers all the way around is something VERY special.

For ME, matching tower speakers are not something I would consider to replace in a couple years. A good set of speakers can easily go 20 plus years or more. IMHO, is worth the investment and enjoyment for how long they will last. If you can afford to do so. With my current speakers I will never replace them. They bring a HuGE to my face every day.

If you are unable to get the 580. Due to availability or cost. You might want to consider the 530 for the surround and surround backs. I highly recommend keeping within the JBL 5 series of speakers. To match your existing 590 towers.

Good luck in your decision.
I wanted to buy the 580 but could not due to room sizing constraints. And I heard the 530s don't match well. Additionally they are not available.

I don't want to completely get rid of them though, as they are much better than my other speakers when listening to music at low volume. So I'm wondering if there's a way for me to incorporate them into my current 5.1 system, like on a switch or something? I'd love to be able to switch them on when I want to listen to low volume music (I like listening to my music in 5.1, not stereo) and then switch over to my other L & R speakers when I want to listen at higher volume? So basically still use the same center, rears and subwoofer but switch between two different sets of L & R speakers?

Also is there any device out there that would allow independent bass/treble control for each individual speaker? My AVR only allows me to adjust bass/treble across the board to all five of my speakers...do other AVRs allow independent bass/treble control of each? Or is there any type of add-on device I could buy that would let me do that?
MiniDSP 2x4 HD will provide panametric EQ and graphic EQ for every channel. You would need external amps to put the MiniDSP inline. The other option is to get an amp with onboard EQ like an iNuke or Crown XLS. Make sure the Crown is the newer model (black in color, not the silver ones).

The 530's match well. Don't know where you "heard" that.

Yes and people need to stop perpetuating this notion, as it will lead to confusion. If someone found the 530 not to "match well" with the 590 they either have issues with their implementation (settings, configuration, placement), room, or there is a damaged speaker. The 530 is an excellent match to the 590's. If I crossed the 590's and 530's over at 80hz and had proper bass management enabled I think many people would be hard pressed to pick which one was which with a blindfold on. Where the 590's shined for me was 2 channel music with no subwoofer.

Are you recommending 530s as LCR too or as surrounds to 590s?

530 for surrounds. However, you have to mount them very carefully on the wall as they have no mount attachment point and they will stick out compared to actual wall mount speakers.

530's for LCR if you have a small room, like a bedroom.

If you think 580's are too much for the sides and rears, then I still suggest the upcoming 610's. They more than likely will match sonically, and yet easily hang on the wall.

They work great as LCR's as long as you have a good subwoofer to crossover with. Go back and look through the thread I believe we have even seen some owners prefer the 530 for a main.

I'm getting confused what you actually own. Do you have 590's? If so just keep them for LCR, etc and get the 530's for surrounds. If you own the 530's already try those out first as main channel with a good sub.

Every room is different. Every person is different. Experiment with what you like and prefer and use the forum as an opinion but nothing more.

I have three 590s. I wanted to get surround 530s but read on this thread that they would not pair well. I then wanted to get the 580s for surrounds but running into space issues. So options for surrounds are open.

Ignore the person who told you the 530's don't pair well with the 590's. They don't know what they are talking about.

Yes. JBL is replacing the Series 5 with a Series 6. They're already up on JBL's Japanese site with brochures. There's a thread link in this very topic.

The 610 is the wall mount surround model in the new lineup. Series 5 had no wall mount speaker.

Were you thinking I said that? I love the 530's as surrounds for movies with my 590 LCR. I did say that 590s all the way around is better for playing multichannel stereo music, but not by much. For movies, the combo of 590 up front and 530 surrounds is preferable. They pair amazingly well.

What you might have read was that a number of us aren't the biggest fans of the 520 speaker. But that's a center channel, not a bookshelf. It sounds fantastic up through 75 dB, but I'm one of those who thinks it starts sounding boxy over about 80 or 85 dB.

Meanwhile, the 530 had no such problem in my setup with 590 fronts, even at pretty darn high volumes.

Just want to make sure I didn't contribute to you thinking that 530s don't pair well with 590s.

I do wonder if the 610 will be better for wall mount duty than the 530. I've read that speaker designers have to engineer speakers differently if they're going to attach to a wall. A regular bookshelf is designed assuming that there will be some space between it and the wall. So if you're definitely going to attach to a wall, you might be better off getting a speaker designed for that purpose.

I don't exactly remember. Maybe a combination of things. Anyways it's a bit late now for 530s. Will wait and watch. Just trying to understand options on absence of 530s and 580s and Dan suggests 610. Need to see pricing.

Mounting a 530 to the wall is awkward at best.

i would pay $500 for these though. like them better than klipsch rp160 among others ive owned. i liked the klipsch the most until i got the 530s
ive even auditioned speakers with raal tweeters and i like the 530s better. though i preffer a brighter sound.
the raal tweeters just arent for me. too laid back and relaxed. not exciting, sorta boring actually.
fully satisfied with the 530s especially at $300 per pair. i feel like i got away with one.

the raal tweeters just arent for me. too laid back and relaxed. not exciting, sorta boring actually.
fully satisfied with the 530s especially at $300 per pair. i feel like i got away with one.
i think at $300 they are a great choice..$500 as well (if you know you like them..)

Need some urgent help. I have started trying out my 590s for LCR and 4400h Denon. They're connected in the plug point behind the TV. These have been purchased for use in my basement where I plan to run dedicated circuits. In their temporary placement now can I do anything to prevent voltage fluctuations? We had heavy rains today and i saw the lights dimming and coming back again and the receiver temporarily shutdown and restarted. Can I pick anything up from a local shop instead of waiting for Amazon to ship it?

This might help but will most likely shut power off during the brown outs.

I have now plugged into my current surge protector rather than directly to wall. Hopefully this helps.
