I recently discovered that one of my driver has small dings/dents on 'em , most likely by my 1+yr nephew.

My question is, does those effect the overall performance of the speaker ( not that I noticed, prior )? If so, is there anything I can do (DIY) apart from replacing the driver ( qouted at USD$413.00 delivered ) ?

TIA

those dents wouldnt have any noticeable effect on the sound so as long as no other internal damage was done it should work as normal.

Zero effect on sound, and you have to look so close to see it that you are the only one to notice it.

I bought my R500 as demo models from the dealer. One of the black aluminum woofer cones has a mark like that. I'm the only one who ever noticed it, and it doesn't bother me a bit.

Save your money and continue enjoying your speakers.

You will not be able to hear any difference. Try not to let it keep you up at night. Little things like that drive me crazy.

Well count me in as a member of the ls50w club. I've had a LOT of amazing speakers in the last 10 years, and these are the most completely satisfying. That is taking into consideration of what it takes from the time I enter my listening room to the time the music hits me.

I stream Tidal by way of USB from my MacBook Pro, and soon to be utilizing Roon. And that's it. I flop in my chair, scroll through my Ipad to control the Mac, and out comes amazing music.

I would like to point anyone on the fence about the LS50 vs LS50W to the 6moons article by Srajan Ebaen: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/3x1_2/1.html

In their comparison of amazing components tied to standard LS50 vs the active LS50w: "Only one passive LS50 setup gets close to its active brother's performance levels: a pair of PS Audio BHK Signature 300 monoblocks connected to the red LS50 via AudioQuest Rocket 88 loudspeaker cable and fronted by PS Audio's BHK Signature preamplifier and DirectStream DAC fitted with the Roon Ready Network Bridge II..." a system whose "electronics alone sum to $29'000! Compare that to $2'200 for the LS50 Wireless."

All I can say, is that I have never wholly enjoyed a system as much as I am enjoying the LS50W. I will soon be adding a pair of Rythmik F15HP subwoofers in place of my single REL Stadium III, and excited for what that will bring to the party.

Congratulations!

I am a new LS50w owner myself and I agree. These are my favorite speakers that I have ever owned. They are remarkable and I love that I dont have to mess around with other amps and DAC's etc. Plus the LS50w's have way more EQ and tuning options than any other stereo amp I have ever used.

I am auditioning a Rythmik F12 with mine currently. Blends in great with the KEF's. I think youll be very happy with the F15hp's.

great to hear about the blending. I have a difficult room for getting even frequency response, so two will deffinitely help. I also have plans for them to do dual duty, and have a second system (HT) utilize them on their discreet LFE inputs, while the LS50W will use the Line inputs by way of a miniDSP 2x4.

There are lots of Roon control devices. I'm going to run Roon Core on my Mac, an then use screen sharing to control it through the tablet. Nice and streamlined. I'm also tempted to use a Sony HAP-z1ES for the upconverting factor, which I have enjoyed in other systems. Though, I am not sure on that just yet as it is adding complexity.

Hello all,

I'm planning to trade my LS50 passives and NAD D3020 amp in for the LS50 wireless system. My wife is onboard so long as I go with the white/gold and put them on white stands, which I agree will look nicer than the black stands I currently have. However, white stands don't seem too easy to come by, and I'm reluctant to drop $400 on the KEF stands. I thought about just painting the stands I have, but they're pretty old and I'd like to get some with built in cable management. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are you actually trading in with a dealer? If so, perhaps that dealer can offer you a much better price on the KEF stands as part of the deal. They are really good stands!

I have these and they work really well. Their cable management is not internal. Just a loop at the top and bottom, but I think you will have a problem fitting all the cables for the right speaker into most internal setups. I bought some woven sleeving to hide the wires. I’m sure these stands could be painted pretty easily.

Thanks. Here is the link to it. Could have probably went a “little” smaller than 1” but it looks good as is. The 1/2” is too small.

Wasn't planning on that, but I am going to a local dealer today just to make sure I want to do this. What a concept--listening to the speakers before buying, right?! If they give me a good trade in offer, I'll consider it. Certainly wouldn't mind skipping the hassle of selling my current system. I agree the KEF stands look quite nice, but I still suspect they're overpriced; I'm torn about it.

Definitely worth considering. I've used that expandable mesh sleeving in other applications and that's a good idea, too. Thanks for the suggestion!

I pulled the trigger on the KEF performance speaker stands. They are nice but definitely over priced.

Tidal may only have enough cash left to last six months
Jay-Z's music streaming service is bleeding money and users
https://www.google.ca/search?q=tidal...w=1366&bih=637

will be interesting to see what happens...i know spotify experimented with lossless either in summer of this or last yr.
maybe they'd buy up the tidal members...but they're not open to working with Roon from what i've read.

Is it possible to do room correction with the ls50w? I would love to be able to get rid of my receiver in my living room.

Also interested in this. I have a few ls50s in my 5.1 and if I could rid myself of my giant amp with the w, I might replace the set

Or you could freak out family and friends, and use the "rattlesnake" techflex.

I have the same stands. And I was wondering if it is advisable to just drill a big hole in the back pillar to route the wires through. What do you think?

I wouldn't advise it for LS50 Wireless speakers because it would have to be about a 1" (25mm) hole or bigger to get the power cord through it. The could weaken the post by quite a bit.

KEF R500, R200C, R100, R50, SVS SB2000 sub, NAD T758v3 AVR, LG UP875 4K BlueRay, Samsung UN55JU6500F 4K LED TV, KEF M500 headphones, Sony CDP-CE500 CD changer. Office: NAD M10, KEF LS50, KEF Kube 10b, Pro-Ject RPM1 TT w/ Ortofon 2M Red. Guest room: Hafler 300 L-R, KEF Reference Model 100 center, KEF iQ10 surrounds, modded M&K V-90 sub, Bluesound Vault 2.

Oh correct. You have ls50w. But even for my ls50, that was my concern.

I have yet to figure out the science behind speaker stands. I mean do we want them to couple with the floor, couple with the speakers, neither or both? And why?

Anechoic testing is often done by hanging the speakers by a rope.

Well the LS50s come with decoupling pads (and no threads for spikes) and the factory stands are spiked for coupling and stability, with optional inert fill. So that should tell you where they stand on the issue.
