On a chinese clone costing $500 I would consider it. Voiding the warranty on a $3000+ amp, no way. That's just me.

But you can do anything you want with it once you own it, including disabling them altogether.

Haha. I called Samson at the time and they said given the usage it was fine to do. If Crown did a firmware update that would be ideal, obviously.

So, what about the other question of I Tech vs DCi electrical and DSP performance? Is there any difference?

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting @adidino and seeing his theater. Adidno was kind enough to invite me to his home to listen to his set up with the M2's, and I got to see his projector (JVC RS4500) in action as well. He has an incredible set up, EXTREMELY clean and well done, down to every last detail. All of the front speakers and subs were behind his acoustically transparent screen, which you can see with the help of blue L.E.D lights he had behind the screen. He has a separate room behind the theater room that houses all of the equipment so the theater room has nothing in it besides the screen and seats. He did one of the best jobs I've seen at creating a vessel that fully transports you into the movie. No distractions, equipment to trip over or anything in the room. His room has become a model for me on how I want to do my theater room in my new house. Adidino, Bravisimo! Thank you for your hospitality and taking the time to show me your beautiful theater room! If anybody is interested in auditioning the M2's, I strongly suggest contacting @adidino

Here's a pic I took of his screen with the blue L.E.D's on behind the screen. 3 M2's and 2 S2S-EX subs

I don't think they'll ever put out firmware to turn the fans off. They put out a lot of heat.

Those of you who are using the 708i as a center channel along with the m2 for left/right. Do you guys feel when watching movies that having an m2 center will make it a night and day or a subtle difference?? i remember seeing "Desperado" at the sony lowes theater on 19th st. & broadway. When bullets were fired, you would feel it in your chest and i had to check my self twice to make sure i wasn't shot. Do you guys think these speakers can give you that level of uncompressed sound like at some of the best movie theaters??

M2 Processor Recommendation

I am seriously considering the M2s and am planning a trip to Northridge for audition.

I am hoping that the JBL team can answer the questions I have regarding amp/DSP differences prior to purchase.

My question is about what people are feeding their Crown amps with? I will want my system to be focused on two channel but would like the option of developing an HT down the road. There seem to be a number of receivers and pre/pro that 'may' be up to the task. Coming from more of a separates, audiophile type world, I just don't know if any of those can truly perform at a reference type level. Can anyone make a recommendation for a processor that can provide proper service to the M2's?

Thanks.

I think Anthem AVM60 is the most popularly used pre/pro amongst us M2 owners on this forum. Gooddoc, addino, John S, me, off the top of my head all run the AVM60

Emotive XMC-1. Solid for me. I only do 5.1 though.

By the way, the M2s continue to impress me. I spend a lot of time in 2 channel with them.

OK, recent input from JBL:

The DCi14|1250n is a great amp to pair with a set of M2s for even large home theater spaces. In fact, it was developed with the M2 in mind - plenty of power except for all but the most strenuous of professional applications (large mix suites / unmastered, raw recordings). We ran the M2s during all three of our HT Seminars off of the Synthesis SDA4600 (the same as the DCi4|600n) and it handled even the large hotel spaces without any issues, and it's half the power.

The anechoic data / DSP is the same for the DCi-n amps as for the iTechs.

Obviously, lots of love for the Anthem AVM60 here. BTW, we had Kris Deering - tech editor for Sound and Vision - out for our Seminars and he is a huge fan of the AVM60 as well.

I agree, the DCi amps are fantastic. I have a DCi 4/300 for my 708i's and I like it very much. Relatively low noise floor (especially compared to the Sparks I had) and so much configurability, much like the I-techs. Definitely a great alternative for the M2's for a residential setting if you don't need the "extra."

Is there any sonic difference between the DCi and the I Tech?

@Gooddoc would be better able to answer this question for you than me. Right now I only have experience with the DCi amp I have. I just know the I-tech amps are EXTREMELY stout and put out some serious power.

That sensation of "being shot" is one I've experienced in several Synthesis demos and in my own theater It's a combination of the impact from the subs and the impact from the compression drivers. OPEN RANGE and UNBROKEN are excellent examples of exactly what you are talking about.

I'm getting that exact effect with my LSR708s combined with my S2S-EX subs, same system you have. The M2 will give that effect too, and will do it in larger rooms and at greater listening distances.

Something sure sounds incorrect with your setup if you are not getting it with your 708s and S2S-EX subs. I honestly have about the exact same setup (except I use the Anthem AVM60 for a pre-pro). Now, it could also be the room as well - hard to say without an on-site visit.

We had three M2s and two S2S-EX subs for our HT Seminars, and it also could flat out move some air

No. different features, different power outputs. But not any sonic difference unless driven to the point that the amps are experiencing power compression or clipping of dynamic peaks.

The person I talked to at JBL told me he did not want to jump in and comment on that debate - but he DID tell me that he is personally using the DCi4|1250n in his own home. And this is someone who knows that speaker inside and out

Audible differences in amps is something not agreed on by all at Harman. Some say there are audible differences, others say no, with the general consensus being that any well designed amp operating within its limits should sound like another.

Interestingly Kevin V. at CES told me they may start bringing amps into the MLL for double blind evaluations. I'd love to see (hear) that!

Hey John - do you typically like to keep your subs flat relative to the mains or are you following more of the Synth curve (or similar) on the AVM60?
