Hey, im looking for a nice HTS setup for under 650$. I'm currently looking at the Sony STRDH540 for a receiver because of the 5.2 and the Yamaha  NS-SP1800 for speakers  and will buy another sub for the set. Any opinoins or advice? I mainly watch movies ( fairly loud ) and blast my music. My Media room is about 12x12 feet and i dont need a super high end set im just looking for some speakers that will fill my room plenty loud. Thanks in advanced! Or should i just buy the Samsung HT-F5500? Figured Custom set would be better.

That is a really tight budget. Really tight.

I would recommend starting with a 3.1 system then adding rears later.

But if you insist on this budget.

These for speakers:

This for a sub:

And this for a receiver:

Do you live near a Fry's? They often have awesome deals on Denon receivers and Infinity Primus speakers.

Buying some Andrew Jones Pioneer Speakers on sale might also work.

Buy three pairs of these, use two pairs for the front and rears and then one of the third pair for a center.

Or a couple pairs of the refurbished Pioneer bookshelf speakers and this for a center:

If it were me for your budget and room, I would go with two pairs of the Pioneer bookshelf and the matching center, plus the BIC sub and the Denon 300 from ACL.

Others I am sure will throw out some ideas but you do have a very tight budget.

One upside is that you have a small room, so you don't have to spend a huge amount on towers, etc.

Also, looking at used speakers can be a valid idea.

I prefer phase (2) Pioneer for the fronts

Look at 1 pair Pioneer BS22 speakers
and Pioneer C22 center

For surrounds, the B21 < on the same Amazon page >
(if you want to save a few dollars, then get them from Newegg)

Mordaunt Short subwoofer
