Thanks,

So you have no way to go bigger? The rc42ii would be an upgrade. But i would pass on anything less then a rc52ii.

And really the rc62ii is a giant leap and will be a huge upgrade for your whole system. Thats what i would try and work into your system if you can. The older rc62 can be had for around 275 used.

So here's the deal - my center sits inside the center shelf of a Sonax TV cabinet (the ML-3609 if you're curious). The RC52 is about an inch-and-a-half too wide for the space (max width: 19"). I stopped by RCWilley on the way home and grabbed the RC42-II and have been listening to it tonight. It does seem significantly cleaner than the KC-25 that was previously in the position, but that may be at least partially due to the fact it's got the adjustment post which allows it to be pointed at my listening position properly. The KC-25 barely fit in the space (18.75" wide) and really didn't have enough vertical space to allow it to be pointed properly. I'd considered moving the speaker into the position above the shelf, but doing so would block the lower part of the television. I could mount it above the television but I have some reservations about that too.

I do have a couple of weeks to toss this around. The Sonax cabinet has given me some problems (sagging in the center) and I'm working with the manufacturer to see what can be done about it. We'll see whether they'll replace it or not. If the opportunity presents itself, I'll look at going a different direction on the speaker placement and going to the RC-52 or RC-62. Why the RC-52/62? Is it a better 'match' for the KF-28's?

The other question that I've been unable to find a good answer for: does placing the center inside another cabinet (especially a tight one) affect the sound output from the speaker? Could that accentuate the muddy performance of the KC-25?

I actually had been looking at those...my concern is that the CSB-1210 (http://www.centerstagebracket.com/1210.html) is rated to support 25 pounds. The RC-62 is rated at 30 and the CSB-3006 appears to have been discontinued. Have either of you guys used this thing and is it likely to support a heavy center?

Also, my TV is an LG 60PK550 which has no plastic bezel around the screen....it's glass. While I can certainly put something in between the shelf and the glass to avoid scratching it, I wonder about the effect of the pressure on the glass?

Thanks again for all your patience and suggestions, guys...I realize I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I'm trying smile.gif (hopefully more than your patience! wink.gif)

MJ what your hearing is the rc42ii is just a better speaker than what you had. The drivers, cab, and even the xover are all better.

The 52 or 62 would not match better it would just be better. And it would set you up for a perfect upgrade down the road.

Can you wall mount your tv and place a center where the tv was?

the TV is capable of wall mounting but I have not done so to date because I may relocate the TV within the room. I've sent requests for information to CSB's customer service as well as Crutchfield's to confirm whether the CSB-1210 will hold the RC-62-ii. If I can work out a way to mount it above the TV without damaging the TV or threatening the stability of the speaker, I'll do so. I know that RCWilley had the RC-52-ii in stock and I'll call them tomorrow to confirm whether they have the RC-62-ii. It's a good probability that I'll swap the RC-42-ii out for one or the other tomorrow.

Other reading on AVS has helped me to discover that I'd done my Audyssey setup and had some settings in my amp set incorrectly as well. Amazing how much better things sound when you do a little research and follow the directions. biggrin.gif

I haven't forgotten about the sub...it'll likely happen in the next few months, after our tax return comes back.

Thanks again for all the help...I'll let you know how things come together.

Okay - time for the big and tough question: is the RC-62-ii so much better than the -52-ii that it's worth another $250? I know value is very subjective, but it's a pretty big jump from $299 to $549.

A very nice sub. The free shipping and 45 day in home trial with great customer service is hard to beat.

I'm using what is essentially a RC-52 with my RF62s and have been nothing but impressed with it. Keeps up with the towers just fine. I'm sure the 62 is a step up, but for me the price was too high in comparison and it was too big to fit on the center stage bracket I use on top my TV.

If you can afford it and have the space, always get the most you can afford.

As for the PC12, I have the Plus version and it's awesome. It seems really big at first but it pretty much just disappears into the corner after a while. Very unobtrusive.

I have owed both and to me the 62 is worth every penny more. But if you chose the 52 I'm sure you will still be happy.

I found this pic rc-62ii on the left the rc-52 (old version) next it.

Thanks so much for everyone's help...I wound up going to a local store over the weekend and brought home a B&W front set (685 bookshelves and stands, and an HTM-62 center) and a Martin Logan Dynamo 700W sub. Things are sounding great and I'll be selling the Klipsch Icons.

Many thanks for all the advice...it turns out you all were right: better fronts and a decent sub are making a big difference in how the sound fills the room and even make the Klipsch surrounds sound better. smile.gif

That may be your surround issue right there. Those tiny Icons 15' away will struggle to fill in the surround when the fronts are playing loud.
