So the speaker does have some cotton damping or is that something you put in?

How does one select that? I am still new to this Marantz. I watched Rogue Nation the other night and was very impressed! The NU4-6000s sound great and dynamic with the Marantz Atmos decoding being superb. I need to finish up the panels so I can take pics, rerun Audyssey and then listen again. What I don't understand is how Audyssey fixes the room by measuring around the MLP. What about my 6 other seats? It is a good thing my room sounds great without EQ.

I've been looking at the Mackie C200s and/or Beh. B212XLs

for interest is there quite a price difference between the 2 in the States ?

over here the C200s are not far off double the price. Worth the extra ?

Most online stores offer Mackie c200 at 200 USD; 212XLs at 160 USD.

Mackie C200 are not worth double the price over the B215XL. I've heard both in my room, and own the Mackie C200.

The B215XL are a fantastic speaker for the money - don't sweat it. For that kind of price delta - go with the Behringer.

thanks Archaea - have just looked at your linked post - and very useful (as ever ) - I think I probably will go with the Behringers - at the price worst case I'll stick them in the garage if I don't like them

just one thing it was the B212XL I was looking at not the B215XL - the latter being just too big - I think it would not look right in the room

our room is about 17 foot by 16 foot

the C200s do look a bit better aesthetically if the photos are to be believed - do they look that much better in person ?

thanks

yes

but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and sans grills - the b212xl or b215xl isn't bad at all. That yellow triangular Behringer emblem on the grill is a bit of an eye sore otherwise.

Here are the 215xl without the grills from a google image search.

Nice, I swear I will get pics up soon. I should take off the grills so people can't be biased on sight. I have a 4 year old though so I am cautious.

^^ look gorgeous, Mike. The look of the Berries has grown in me now that I think they look quite good (without grill). I sure didn't think so when I first got them especially with that grill on.

still deciding between a pair of 212XLs or Mackie C200s - other than looks which I've come around that I could probably live with the Behrringers

there seems a very noticeable roll-off in high frequency on the 212XL and 215XL - does this cause a problem in reality ? or just measurements ?

more than anything I'm concerned what Audyssey XT32 will try and do with it , as my old ancient Tannoys due to age etc roll off quite a bit at upper frequencies and Audyssey tries to put huge boosts in which is not good

The roll-off is not an issue. It is only in the last half of the very highest octave - not much information up there, and depending on your age/ear sensitivity you may not even hear whatever is up there.

I am quite sure Audyssey has a boost limit. Audyssey on my Onkyo behaves fine.

Best regards,
Mikkel

Been following this thread as its interesting concept to use PA speaker for HT use. I know this is about Behringer and I've seen posts on the Mackie, but has anyone tested/tried the Monoprice Passive PA speakers.

Monoprice

15", 500 watt, passive PA speakers listed at $159 USD each. Interesting that they use NL4 connectors. Would be interesting on a side by side test considering these are about $40 USD each cheaper than what the Bringer B215XL are going for at the moment.

I'll give a pair a go next week if I can sort a day I'll be in for delivery

I'll dig my UMIK out and see what results I get in REW

no idea what to do centre wise - a C200 "would" fit - just but would be horizontal

only other idea - would be a XTZ Cinema M6 as a centre

http://www.xtzsound.com/product/cinema-m6-center

hoping that with the 4 soft domes it'll give the dynamics I need - not sure what would be better with the Behr. one of those or a C200 on its side - one M6 is over three times the price of a C200

in a ideal would I quite fancy 3x M6s at front - but I can't justify well over $2k for my front three

I would like to hear the xtz speakers too. You could look at the psa 210 center to match. Before I did my screen I was thinking that way.

Hey everyone,

Just want to point out that Amazon has had a whole host of Amazon Warehouse returns on the Behringer B212XLs in Very good condition the past few weeks for ~$110 Each.

That means you could get a

5 speaker System for ~$550
7 speaker System for ~$770
7.4 Atmos speaker system for ~$1210

I've personally now bought 5 of the Amazon B212XL's in very good condition and they all came in great shape and work fine, don't notice any defects with them. The only issue was on one of them the silica packs with the tiny beads they use to absorb moisture broke in shipping and they rolled into the speaker. I had to open that one up to get all the beads out.

Would highly recommend going the used route at Amazon for anyone looking to stock up on these speakers at a cheap price!

I got my 215s the same way here in the UK - with some Amazon vouchers I had from Christmas I got them cheaper still. The Amazon Warehouse speakers I got were just in different boxes and completely new and unmarked, so I think all that happens is the Behringer boxes get damaged, so they reduce the price and call them used.
