I usually check Amazon prime first since I've already paid for shipping that way. I just look around for a good deal at the time. Monoprice can be good but there are other sources including your local Lowe's or Home Depot. Surrounds don't need a lot nor need to be matched so even a lightweight pair of speakers can do well as surrounds, I usually use whatever speaker has been pushed aside by bigger/newer speakers (I have 7.3 in living room, 5.1 in bedroom, 3.1 in garage and am setting up two more rooms soon smile.gif. Two of my Take Classics are used as surrounds in my bedroom. A good cheap speaker like this might be an idea http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-b652-6-1-2-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-pair--300-652

Thanks again guys. So just to be sure about this, I'm gonna hook the Denon up to all of the speakers I have, and via Audyssey it's just gonna figure out the best setup for the speakers I have, right? As far as how to set the front speakers crossover, 80-120hz or whatever, and how the sub should be set, etc?

After you hook of the speakers and run Audyssey it should set the speakers up correctly. An 80hz crossover would be good for the BS-22-LR and matching center channel.

If you have any questions after you run audyssey feel free to post back here what settings Audyssey set for your speakers and we might be able to help from here

Thanks again. Ordered everything yesterday, including an extra set of the BS-22-LR's for my surrounds. Should be the best system/setup/sound I've ever had for sure. Peace.

May I please also ask a newbie question on this

Is there a great disadvantage to hiding all this BLACK of speakers standing in the room with say a thin fabric of light colored cloth  - like a pillow case for a tower speaker ??

Thank-you in advance!

I would just buy nicer looking speakers instead... There are plenty with nice wood veneers or gloss finishes.

I guess that's my problem - I never bought nice speakers so I don't know what to substitute

looking for a lighter color but not wood.

There are a good number of speakers in a gloss white finish, I don't think you will find many colors between white and black.

Will a wired sub perform as well as a wireless  sub? Will the audio cable to this sub affect the signal?

There are many wireless sub kits available, Rocketfish makes one and I believe Outlaw does as well. I would rather stick with a wired connection because there is some delay with the wireless signal, but Outlaw makes very good subs so I would wager if it's good enough for them it should be for most people.

Wow - Those are nice - but I had my heart set on floor standing towers

Come to think of it - I don't know why but I thought that's what I wanted

Maybe the sock idea isn't too far out into left field - maybe not as far a paint???

That would work if I built something [ stable enough ] to raise them up

is it "safe" to leave the black screens off?

You can buy speaker stands at various heights, and many of them allow you to fill the tubes with some kind of weighted material like sand, to help anchor the stands and increase speaker decoupling. You can definitely leave the screens off, they aren't supposed to affect the sound one way or another, and many people like to see the drivers.

Ill have to go back to the threads and see now if I can find guidance away from tower speakers and look at things to put on tube stands.

Thank-you for showing the way!

I take it you don't have curious fingers in your household? Seems when I was 4 I still managed to mangle one of my dad's speakers, though smile.gif

Also, depending on your level of enterprise, you can buy different color grille cloth for speakers on eBay. I was actually thinking of changing mine from black to silver to match a unit, then changed my mind when my wife replaced the unit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GC3BK-SPEAKER-GRILL-CLOTH-BLACK-66-X-36-16-5-SQUARE-FEET-/131106955349

Trust me, you'll be happy you have the grilles on at least once.

And fingers find their way in, even if they're not your kids. I've had to pull out a few dustcaps because my wife was visiting with a friend, and their little monster pushed some in. My kids were trained early to "respect the gear".

Also, how are the pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers compared to the 52-LR speakers mentioned above? If paired with a nice sub, wouldn't they still blow away the old Onkyo speakers I'm used to? Sorry, just trying to save some money here. Maybe use the 22-LR's with a sub and the matching SP-C22 center channel at first, then buy the 52-LR's at some point, and move the 22-LR's to the back for my surround speakers? What do you guys think? Thanks again!

Get the better sub and the bookshelf Pioneers.

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

Today I ordered the two tower and the center speakers. Yesterday I ordered the receiver. I have a small powered sub that I would like to use just to get going. I am sure I will want better and still want  to add the two surround units - but I have already spent more on this little hobby than I have on all the AV equipment I have purchased life-2-date LOL

Thank - you to everyone posting in these threads

Kind Regards

Sting

Thanks again guys!

Just found this thread. I have Energy Take Classics 5.1 connected to a Yamaha RX-V673 in a similar sized room. The sound is awesome, at half volume the sound just blows you away, very happy with these speakers. Watched Dave Gilmour live at the Albert hall on Blue Ray last night and the neighbours down the road complained !!  Highly recommend these speakers, they pack a lot of punch for their small size.

Thanks Busterbvi. Wish I would have known this a week ago. Ha. Could have saved me some cash! Already ordered the Pioneers and NXG sub. But if I'm not happy with that stuff, or feel that it's more than I need, I'll consider the Energy speakers again. I know my wife would prefer those for sure due to their small size. Peace.

I think I've decided on the Denon AVR-E300 receiver, and I'm wondering if the Energy take classics would be a good match for said room size and receiver? My budget for both receiver and speakers is no more than $700. Thanks for your wisdom in advance. Any suggestions would be appreciated as well. My former experience with home theater has been Onkyo HTIB systems. Seemed fairly decent to me, so I'm just wanting to possibly step up a little in quality if possible with the budget mentioned.

Can't wait for your reaction when you get even better speakers!

Yeah I'll definitely post my impressions. Probably won't even get the sub delivered until Tuesday according to the tracking info. Eventually though.
