Thanks. I read that review. impedance drops to 2.25 ohms and well below 4 mostly. Does that mean it's hard to drive?
Currently somehow I want to go the Magnepan direction: mmg, 1.7, 3.7 ...

The ML60XT offer is a good deal. but i think it's more important to find the right speakers than saving a couple of hundreds.

I finally had a chance to set everything up this weekend. The SLM XL sounds spectacular! Dialog was crystal clear in movies and music at all volumes I tried and paired really well with the Motion 60XT fronts. I do wonder how much of a difference the Parasound A31 will make in my setup. At the least, the Denon 3313ci receiver will get a break.

Good luck with your center purchase. If you are looking for a thin profile center to wall mount, you cannot go wrong with the SLM XL. Plus you get that folded motion tweeter!

Looks good. Nice clean install. Always fun drilling through tile.

You won't hear a difference, unless you turn it up really loud, then you still probably won't. Trust me,I had an XPA 3 hooked up to my ESL's, you couldn't hear the difference at all. The receiver(Onk 818) never struggled either. If you have a very large room, then I could see you needing it. If you have a medium room, you won't notice a difference. You will see guys all day long add and amp and say,OMG it really opened the sound stage, blah blah blah.. LMAO! You won't hear no difference. Save your money for something better.

...Too late...but the Parasound A3 does look really nice at the bottom!

Initially, I was sad when I used some Monoprice RG6 "high quality" coaxial cables for hookup to the receiver and was getting the hum. I swapped them out for a set of Acoustic Research component video cable I had laying around and the hum went away. I had an old set of Monster component cable to test as well and that also produced no hum. I stuck with the ARs for the shorter length. Three channel amp plus component cable was the perfect mating!

I do not have any fancy hardware (aside from the Parasound), and tend to either stream music from YouTube from the Sony TV, or music and movies from the PS3. I couldn't tell you if it feels like I am sitting in the front row at a concert as I have never been to one, but it does sound pretty damn amazing from what I previously had.

New owner. I just purchased a pair of mint Motion 12s and a new Motion 8 center. Unfortunately, only thing I have to use for surrounds in the short term are a pair of Dayton B652 AIR speakers. Will look for a pair of Motion 2s as soon as funds replenish. Will be driven by a Marantz SR-7008 and low end will be my SVS SB-1000. Looking forward to this, have only heard ESLs and a pair of Motion 4s.

Decided to swap out my existing Motion 8 center channel with a SLM XL speaker for my center. I have unusually wide seating in my theater, and the SLM XL speaker is wider / bigger than the Motion 8. Plus, it has higher sensitivity. I didn't have too much trouble wall mounting it above my screens, and so far the off axis sound quality is better than the Motion 8. I like it ! I need to do a full Audyssey room correction again with it, but I'll wait until my new SVS PC 12 Plus arrives next week !

It's a bit hard to photograph in a dark room with flat black paint though !

I'll tell you what, just because these speakers were perhaps initially conceived for flat panel TV's doesn't mean that can't be used in a traditional home theater setup. I'm thinking that for many folks with a front projector setup, that can't or don't want to use an AT screen, and need or prefer to wall mount the center channel speaker, this SLM XL speaker is ideal ! Same pleated tweeter design, thin, easy to wall mount ( I have it angled down, mounted on two Def. Tech. Promount 90 wall mounts ). Nearly 3 feet wide - great sound ! Tonight it gets tested with The Maze Runner !

Hi all. I just picked up a pair of Motion 60XTs from my local dealer. I hooked them up tonight and I have some worries. They seem very inconsistent in the level of sound that they produce. One moment they sound amazing, clear, and bright. The next, it's as if the soundstage has vanished and the sound is quite terrible. Is this related to the break-in period? I have tried two different amps and I am getting the same behavior. Thanks!

This is similar to what I experienced with my Motion 40s. It has driven me crazy. I have no answers. What are you powering them with? Denon, perhaps?

So I have figured out what the problem is. My old receiver is now broken! It is an older Rotel 5 channel integrated AVR. I am getting the same behavior now with my old speakers and when using the pre-outs on the Rotel hooked up to another amp. I am quite upset as I loved that Rotel for close to 15 years now!

I also picked up a Marantz 7702 and I have zero issues with this setup with the Motion 60's powered by a Nakamichi PA-7. The Motions now sound very good. I am quite pleased with them.

I do find it odd that my Rotel failed the night I hooked the MLs to it. It was working fine a few days earlier. Ugh.

Martin Logan still makes electrostatics Rich, but they make other speakers now too! I'm loving my Motion 40's. Watched " Gladiator " last night for my birthday - forgot how great the soundtrack was in that movie. The picture on the re-mastered version is also stunning.

Yes, I'd forgotten about it until I entered this thread.

Next thing you know a company like Thiel will be making "me-too" speakers lacking coax-drivers, with high order cross-overs .

Oh...wait!...they are.

This ol' audiophile is getting so befuddled.

With Martin Logan's folded ribbon tweeter, these are the best sounding speakers I've personally owned. Now that I've added a 2nd SVS cylinder sub to the mix, movies sound better than ever before.

Funny though, I keep adding subwoofers, and I my wife keeps telling me to turn it down. Could there be a connection?

The best speakers that came from ML is years are the Electromotion ESL. They aren't the best sounding or the cheapest but they are the best value.

So far my new SLM XL center speaker is doing exactly what I had hoped it would - sounds excellent overall, and the off axis dialog is much clearer. I have a tough theater, with 14' wide seating, but only 12' seating distance ( reduced last night to more like 11' 4" ). This speaker has solved my only problem audio wise in my theater. I'm a happy camper !

Hey guys! I am exploring all my options due to a down sizing. I have heard the Motion 4s and 8 center in a movie setting but have two questions. The first being, how are these for music? Its a 12x14 room. Second. Are these (or any of the other Motion line) easy to drive? I have a Denon 1913.

Thanks!

Sounds good!

A 12' x 14' room is tiny. I can't imagine you couldn't use Martin Logan Motion speakers with that Denon in a room that small. Unless you are trying to play really loud.

Here's a better photo of the new SLM XL speaker mounted as a center channel speaker -

It's a good match for a 118" wide 2.35:1 screen !

I rarely, if ever, listen at "reference" sound levels. If I do go this route, I will certainly give you the sale. I have more research to do.

Thanks!

Sounds good!

Just got back from A/B and Cing some speakers. I REALLY like the Motion 4s! Here is my question of the hour. Is placement of these speakers ideal in the same way most others are? Or are they different? At this point, I'm looking at placing them on shelves. The back of the speaker being maybe only a inch or two from the wall. Unfortunately, that is about as good as it will get.

Sounds good!

I'm sure they will sound fine. Not many of my speakers are placed in the " ideal " spot - they are where they have to go to fit in my room. IMO, most speakers are fairly forgiving on placement.
