MikeyD,

The speakers will not sit flush on the wall with these mounts. They do come with screw slots on the back so you can mount them flush. The arm I have will sit proud of the wall about 2".

just purchased my 3rd mtm 210t last week. have been quite busy modifying my room to move from a 110" display to a 135" acoustic transparent setup. i have the wall recessed for the speakers (yes, the l/r openings are slightly larger to account for toe-in), and we just finished getting the initial framing for the faux-wall installed. should finish that framing tomorrow and work on building the spandex screen as soon as the material arrives. very exciting!

Lookin' good serith!

But, isn't it considered a bad idea to flush mount speakers that were meant to be in free-air?? I could be totally off base here, but I'm sure I read that somewhere....

thanks! they won't be flush though. the recesses i created are only 4" deep. it's just to get the screen as far back from the seating position as possible.

*edit* - they're only 4" deep because that's the depth of the 2x4 framing plus the 1/2" of drywall. i could have went back another 2" but i'd prefer keep the owens corning 2" xps foam insulation.

Flush mounting speakers eliminates the boundary reflections from the back wall. I would do this with any speaker if I was able to. Those reflections will cancel out sound at certain distances. It is often the problem when people say a speaker is lacking in midbass.

i know this is a little off-topic from just being a speaker related question, however i wonder if someone that frequents this thread has done something like this or has seen someone do something similar before.

i built out my faux-wall and the (3) mtm 210t's are in their final resting places (toe-in & all) that will be behind my acoustically transparent screen. should i fill the cavity (the space between the old & new wall) with insulation, or leave it open? i'm just wondering how it will impact the acoustics is all. i guess i can buy some roxul and do some trial & error--it's just time consuming & messy is all.

here are some pictures of what it looks like right now (speakers covered with plastic sheeting for protection from sawdust):

For those looking for a tv stand that will accommodate a mtm 210 center. Budmore 70 inch tv stand from Ashley Furniture. Left and right shelves behind the doors are just wide enough to fit my Outlaw 7125 amp which is 17.25 inches wide.

Im looking at getting 5 psa speakers to replace my first set of speakers. Im wanting to go 210ts and a 210c up front. I was going to get the 110s for my surrounds, but noticed the 110sr.

Is there an advantage/disadvantage to getting either the 110 or the 110sr as the surrounds?

the 110sr's are angled surrounds, and the 110's are bookshelf speakers. really just depends more on where & how you want to mount and position them. when i upgrade my surrounds, i'll be grabbing (4) 110sr's for my side & rear.

The angled surrounds that can be mounted higher on the wall and fire down to the seats make more sense if you arent running Atmos height speakers IMO. If you do have height speakers, then generally you would want the bed speakers to be at ear height I think?

They are essentially the same speaker. The 110s have a little more midbass due to larger cabinet which is really not needed for surround duty.

I've got a 210T with a 210C front stage and am running the 110SR's as surrounds. But I used to have a 110 front stage before I upgraded to the 210's so I have had experience with both the 110's and the 110SR's and there is very little difference. To be honest I think you would have to have the 110's and 110SR's playing next to each other to notice the difference. So I would go with whichever speaker works best for your set up.

I think that's a wise move my friend, I had MTM 210s LCR with MT 110s surrounds and the combination was seamless and enveloping. I never heard the 110SR as I preferred a stand mount surround(s) and couldn't believe the difference it made to have matching drivers all around, I also had the opportunity to have all LCR and Surrs the exact same, all MT 110s, you can't go wrong with any combination. I'm from the camp that surrounds are very important and you don't know what you're missing till you have it............good luck and enjoy.

Is it difficult to switch a 110 to a 110c if needed? It sounds like the tweeter just needs rotated 90 degrees. If i get the 3 110s (fingers crossed), i would want to make one of them a center.

It's really easy. Just as you said, remove four screws rotate the tweeter 90 degrees and put the screws back in.

Yep. It actually looks better that way rather than horizontal. PSA can help guide if needed but real simple.

Last question, for now. Is anybody using a 110c with 210T's? I know i want to get the towers, so my gut is telling me i need the 210c for my center, and not a 110c.

I'm not currently doing it but when I first started transitioning from a setup consisting of 110's for my L/C/R channels I went with 210T's for my L/R channels and kept my 110 for the center channel. It worked fine but there were a couple of things that made me decide to go the Full Monty and move up the the 210C.

1. The first is that the efficiency of the 110s is a bit lower than the 210's and while I can't say that I noticed it adversely affecting the sound quality I felt like something was a little mismatched.

2. I'm a big believer in getting your front stage matching as close to identical as possible so the 210c was a no brainer.

3. As big as the 110 is it looked small sitting in between the 210T's so it was aesthetically more pleasing to my eye to go with the 210c.

Having said that, the 110c sounded great and worked great but the 210c took it to the next level. But you won't be unhappy either way.

Always buy the best center channel you can afford; roughly 85% of TV/movie content comes through the center channel. I would recommend people downsize other speakers if needed first, but never skimp on the center channel. That said, I’d bet 95% households don’t have a center channel as capable as a 110C let alone the 210C.

i'm still floored by how much better my system sounds using a 3rd tower directly behind the middle of the screen for a center channel. the l/r did a really good job giving you a phantom center but nothing like this.
