I will echo what Coach states below. The JTRs are great speakers that do so much right but at times sounded a hair edgy to me. The 4722s nail dialogue, have a huge sound stage, great midbass and very dynamic. I will say if you are heavy into two channel music the 4722s would likely not be my first choice. If you are into HT primarily you cannot do better than the 4722s...especially at the street price.

Plus you can also tinker with the JBL pro speakers by going active with Crown amps....you can interchange the compression driver with several other models so if you ever get the itch to upgrade or tinker you have several options and don't have to sell the speaker to do it.

I also had the 212HT's and then the 215's prior to getting my 4722's.

For me, I was looking for something that was going to give me that BIG dynamic sound you get in some of the better theaters.
The 4722's gave me the biggest sound stage, incredible dialog and amazing mid bass in my room. I like to add that last part on because I truly believe one's room plays a huge part in the sound they get from a speaker.

IMO, it doesn't get much better than the 4722's for a great movie speaker.
I'm back I was given a free three day vacation for "bumping" my for sale thread when all I really did was mention one sold so prospective buyers knew I only had two left for sale. Been on AVS over 10 years and never knew how strict they are with the AVS classified rules. Yikes!!!! You live and you learn. Good news is the DSi amps are all sold.

Should I assume either of those memberships give you the ability to bump your own sale ads?

Reason I ask is, I have seen several ads with "self bumping" but they all appear to be gold members.

I only had time to bump it once because I had to go back outside and yell at the kids for walking on my lawn and then drive to the grocery store so I could park across four parking spots

HAHA. I actually looked up the threads you created today to see if I needed to bump anything for you. I mean, I was going to comment on what a great seller you are since I'd never dream of breaking rules, especially ones meant to protect us. LOL!

My reasoning wasn't necessarily performance based but more of looks, size and utliization. The JBL 4722s are meant to be behind a screen. Most 2 channel first people are going to have their speakers out in the open and set-up for stereo imaging. If they are behind a screen they inherently are likely not to be set-up in the ideal configuration for the best 2 channel performance. On top of that, the 4722s are not going to win any beauty contests

Just purchased a pair of JBL 4722n speakers.

Sorry to go a bit off topic and excuse the ignorance, but what can that ATI amp do that others can't (except look really cool)? I thought the amp just takes the signal from the AVR and pushes it to the speakers with more power? And I thought that the 4722s are fine without a special amp?

Hey fellow crazy audio friends Looking for some OT advice...I imagine in this sample of diversity we bring to the table one of us has dealt with a Paypal dispute/claim before. I sent the Onkyo 5508 to Canada as it sold the second day I had it listed in the classifieds. I set the unit up in the spare bedroom I had one of my 4722's hooked up active to the DSi1000 amp. I had my Asus monitor in there as well all via HDMI of course and using balanced outputs to the Crown amp. I even brought in my Mac mini a few weeks later for music on the HD. I used the unit around 20 times to in music listening as well as sampling movie dialogue on the 4722's. Last thing I did was free air test my FTW21's with it. The buyer messaged me asking for a full refund claiming a faulty HDMI board.

I have sold thousands of dollars of gear on AVS and never a single unhappy buyer or issue. I called Paypal and basically they told me one of us loses out, or possibly get a claim with Fed Ex. Shall I simply send the money back and throw the Onkyo away lol? What say you?

They have to ship it back in order for their claim to go through. Get it back, and make sure it wasn't opened up. You're probably gonna lose out here. Either the HDMI board died, or the guy bought your avr to swap out a bad board then file a claim. Likely the HDMI board just died.

jl...Not is right about the shipping (and he probably nailed the scenarios). In the event of a PayPal dispute, the buyer must file the dispute, make a show of communication with you, then if nothing can be arrived at with a solution, ship the 5508 back to you on his own dime, then you refund the purchase price back to him via the PayPal dispute refund. If this is the course of action, do not just refund the money to him. Some scammers might try something like that. Make sure he files the dispute, and then PP will notify you at some point how to proceed. Let PP make all the decisions on what goes down after he files and follow their directions.

Ultimately, the buyer is protected via PP...but they are whacked for the return shipping in the process. Something like this just happened to me, but I was on the buying end.

Best of luck!

I know it won't settle the PP dispute, but have you checked Onkyo's website to see if the HDMI board is covered under their extended warranty. Onkyo extended the warranties until 2018 for certain older models.

Dgage pretty much nailed the response so I have nothing left to say

In all honesty you don't need a special amp for the 4722s or any other speaker. There are endless discussion and debates on AVS about all amps sounding the same vs not. It won't get settled in this thread so I will just leave it alone. I have my personal opinion based on my own experiences over the years.

Isn't it weird though the last time I used it to test the FTW21's free air it worked fine? And the 20 times before that? If it did die then it literally died right after I played the last 20hz test tone, or during shipping. How do I make sure it wasn't opened up?

He field dispute and communicated. Paypal removed the negative hit on my account immediately without even asking last night when I called.
