I just found 30 minutes to do some music listening with the 4722s. I am becoming more and more convinced that these need the "right" AVR to sound their best. I was not impressed and apparently need to spend some time fine tuning a music only setting compared to what I have them set at for movies. I feel like I have them dialed in for movies (but still feel like they are not as impressive as they could be with the right AVR). I guess I need professional help...or more time....or???

What AVR are you using? Are you using EQ of any kind?

Using a Pioneer Elite VSX-30. The EQ for the 4722s is flat. Only using EQ for the Fusion 6's as surround.

What sort of treatments do you have in your room? If I remember correctly, you have the speakers in a living room (mine too but they aren't huge 4722s). Maybe you should look at making some "artwork treatments" like I did for my living room. Built the panels, found some photos I liked and had them printed on Spoonflower using Silky Faile fabric. For more info check https://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-ded...els-cheap.html.

Just purchased a pair of JBL 4722n speakers.

No treatments. I know I need them but I am in a "temporary" space right now since my theater was flooded last year. Now we found out that our foundation is imploding and the house is sinking. So they are coming to level the house in a couple of weeks. When the house is level I will be rebuilding the theater properly and sound proofing and treating etc. I still think the 4722s should be performing better and think it is in part due to the AVR. What AVR is everyone else using with these???

In your(those who've swapped the 2432H) opinion, do you feel the upgraded 2453H-SL continued to sound better the more you listened? If so, could CD's have a break in period like some speakers/drivers do? I'm thinking they might not. Just wondering what your guys' thoughts are.

Thanks.

Distortion is equally good. Way better than the 2432H. Will do some listening in a minute. Preliminary results show these will make an excellent drop in upgrade, and will tame the harsh/brightness of the 4722N. Anyone wanting to order them will likely need to order shorter studs, as the ones that come with the 2432H are too long to fit into the horn with these. I took about 10 minutes and shortened them about 1/4" using a bench grinder and they're perfect. When I post the info on where to get these, I'll see about including info for the shorter stud part as well. I'll likely end up making a post in the DIY forum with all of the compression driver info and testing I've gathered so it can be consolidated and easy to find.

I was just wondering if you had the same measurements of the stock 2432H driver?
Thanks.

now we could have 2452h-sl and 2453h-sl compare side by side.

jason, so as noyt says, 2452 diaphragm is able to swap, 2453 can swap?

I'm BACK!!!

Feels good to be logged in again after a long hiatus. Apparently Yahoo had AVS listed as spam and wouldn't even let the messages through to my spam box. After a week of trying, I finally found an email address for someone at AVS. Within minutes of sending a message, they figured out the problem and had me a new password...

Back to business. @jasonr93 , If you are interested in dumping your 2453 CD's, PM me ASAP.

Hey, sorry. I already sent them back to speaker exchange. Let us know when you order them, and leave a review of your thoughts on them when you have the time.

Thanks.

If you're looking to swap the diaphragm, the 2452 is the cd that you are after. The 2453 I believe is attached to the cap.

Question for you guys...how much space behind a false wall would I need for the 4722n's with a woven screen like a Falcon Horizon? I know I only need a couple inches in front, but are these okay against the wall, maybe leave 6" or so?

But the baffle wall isn't a requirement for these right? If the speaker is about 18" deep I figure I'll build my false wall about 24" out. I have plans to move my rear wall back, but until then I'm in a 17 ft deep room. Looking at the throw of the JVC RS400, I need to retain as much throw distance as possible. I'm also going to need to go with a 120" scope screen do to throw distance, where I have a 130 now. Though at 11 ft viewing distance I zoomed to 120 and I actually prefer it smaller...which is very strange and doesn't follow my normal progression toward bigger is better lol.
