@notnyt
not sure if you ever got your answer back on noise.
this page shows the specs for the opendrc-an as 108db dynamic range. i'm assuming that is referenced to 2v max output. if so, that puts the noise at about 8 uvrms (microvolts), which is pretty good.

source: https://www.minidsp.com/products/ope.../summary-table

with ~20x gain in the ncore, that is only ~160 uvrms noise (not counting whatever is coming in upstream from your source/avr) which gives about -85db noise at the speakers. should be fine.

also, here is a measurement of the opendrc-da8, not what you are looking at, but fwiw. look like the 1khz noise is getting down near the limits of his measuring gear, and appears to be somewhere in the ballpark of -127dbv, which of course would be about 1 uvrms.
https://www.minidsp.com/forum/hardwa...rc-noise#23945

second thought. maybe the specs in the comparo chart above are the worst case including the apparent noise spike at 60hz. if so, then the specs may be overly conservative at least as far as estimating noise from the horns goes.

all these numbers, specs, and measurements...and somehow it all still ends up having an order of magnitude variation in it (aka, its a crapshoot). lol.

lol yah, I'm probably gonna order them. I can also remove r141 from the ncore to drop the gain, and thus noise.

I have yet to put my 150" falcon screen yep yet. Should I just buy the 2453H-SL CD's now? Money isn't a big deal just wanna know if it's worth it. The speakers only have 10 min on them so I might let them break in a bit

These speakers are incredible as is. If you have diamond ears and money is not a problem then get the upgraded CDs.

I just returned your PM...

Most of us have purchased both the speakers and CD's from Full Compass.
@Frohlich can probably help you with installing them. He did his in a few minutes. It seems like an easy process for sure.

You will love these speakers!

Might I suggest the SCS8's for surround duty. They are simply marvelous!

After one complete night of listening to the 4722's (without subs) crossed over to 70 hz my ears are a bit fatigued. I had my old speakers crossed to 70 hz and didn't bother to change the settings. I only have been listening to acoustic music however so there isn't much bass needed. I think I'm going to buy the 2453H-SL to see if I can mellow them out a bit. I listen to a lot of music 50/50 music/movies. It might be just that the speakers are not broken in yet but I am curious.

nah, the 2432h is just fatiguing, the 2453h-sl is a lot better. It's also a bit bright using the 2432h without EQ. The upgrade clears that right up. If you do, looking forward to more feedback.

"Hey Podboy you should blind buy these L/R/C for $3500....oh wait the holy grail will only cost $900 more with upgraded CD's!" They are much better than the htib KEF 3005se speakers. The brightness just got to me after a few hours. Hopefully the upgrading the cds will help me forget about speakers for a while.

I answered the several PMs I got last night. Knew there must be a new bevy of posting on the 4722 thread

A few thoughts:
1)The upgrade is very reasonable in cost and totally worth it from a performance stanpoint...especially if you sell the old CD on ebay it becomes a dirt cheap upgrade.
2)The waveguide influences the sound and takes out the room more than most traditional speaker designs
3)Experiment with room correction and what sounds best to your ears. I like the sounds of the 4722s so much I actually prefer to run Audyssey in L/R bypass and use it mostly for bass frequency correction.

There is a reason why JBL uses a different CD on the High Power Screen Arrays (5 series models), the 2452H-SL is far superior to the stock CD'S on the 4722. These speakers are designed to a price point, and they succeeded exceptionally well I think.

The 2453H-SL is pretty similar in performance to the higher priced 2452H-SL.

I've thought that about every speaker I've owned.

Seriously. That's not a snarky comment, just a truth. That's not to say you won't feel the same way in 6 months or a year, but you may hear things then that you don't now. It takes me that long to discover issues. I'm not a golden ear

So if you're curious, keep the stock CD's and decide for yourself in a half a year what you think needs improvement. If nothing, then you just saved yourself a bunch of money.

I know the 2452H-SL are in jbls high power screen arrays and the 2453H-SL performs similarly, but what speaker does the 2453H-SL go in? Is it a higher end speaker?
