Messing around with the 2453H-SL. A 1/2in spacer cleared up the dropout at 12khz on the STX825 wave guide. Got the opendrc-an's running and some filters plugged in. I was testing different auto-adjustment levels in different frequency ranges, hence why it's not as smooth on the left.

So do you have the mid/high on a passive Xo and using the opendrc's two channels for EQ?

100uf cap and an autoformer for 12db of padding. Using the opendrc for the filtering, one opendrc per speaker.

Is that at the LP or 1 meter? I never liked a ruler flat response at the LP in my room. Ruler flat at the speaker and letting my room do its thing has always sound best to me in my room.

Have you listened to it yet? How does your room effect the response?

*sigh* opendrc-an units gonna have to go back. Not happy with the noise level. I can hook my NC400 DIRECTLY up to a CD and its almost completely silent with my ear up to it. Adding a 12db autoformer inline knocks it down to almost completely undetectable. With the opendrc hooked up even with the autoformer, I can still here it 6 feet away. I guess I'm going to build a PC based solution.

Also, the opendrc's produce a disturbing amount of voltage on startup over a long duration. I'll grab a capture of it at some point.

I'm not surprised to hear this.

Every minidsp unit I've tried adds audible noise when you run them in passthrough mode.

You really need volume control post dsp device which isn't feasible with multiple devices and an active setup.

I've never used brutfir.

Jriver with audiolense xo is by far the best setup I've had. Ran mains 3-way active but even passive was great.

Very limited input sources though.

You can run jriver for audio in/out only but I could never get latency low enough with the motu 16a. I think it was jriver's issue.

1201 is running a Linux pc based solution iirc.

yep, helped him with some stuff on it a bit. Likely the path I'm going to go since I can get a linux box to boot very quickly. just trying to find a good interface with a low noise floor. Might try a bunch of emu 0404s. will see.

I have tried several audio DSP softwares over the past 5 years, with Audiolense and Acourate being the top two in my opinion. Audiolense, easier to use and setup, Acourate more flexibility and power as it is more of a digital audio toolkit.

I use JRiver's convolution engine and 64 bit digital volume to control my active 3 way horn system. If playing videos from within JRiver, the latency of the linear phase FIR filter is taken into consideration and there are no lip sync issues. With Acourate, one can linearize and time align the drivers, in addition to frequency and excess phase room correction. I am happy with the result.

I don't use https://www.ludd.ltu.se/~torger/brutefir.html but I know several that do and are happy with the results. Attached is an older doc on how to set up BruteFIR convolution on a USB stick. There is considerable BruteFIR info on the Acourate forum at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/acourate/info
Attached Files
File Type: pdf ConvolutionEngine.pdf (135.6 KB, 25 views)

rofl the pdf doesn't actually talk about how to setup brutefir, just some basic linux stuff. I do that for a living and a hobby so it's cake for me to get it rolling. I was using FIR designer to get some filters generated for the opendrcs, should be able to use the same for brutefir and specify a delay for that. I think I'm going to order a 16a tonight so I can get started on that. I wonder how much processing power it'll take to handle this.

I looked at brutefir config, looks very straight forward. Looks like modern hardware will easily handle it at very low latency levels. Might grab a NUC or something for this project.

yeah, its pretty slick. You can check it out without paying for it, just can't export anything.

Slick it is. Acourate similar. Are you planning minimum or linear phase xo's?

I can't fit another 4722n into my room due to low ceilings. Can't use AT screen due to need for alr screen plus my room is only 18ft deep. Any suggestions for center speaker to go with JBL 4722n pair with upgraded cds?

I'm diying 2453H-SL over a 265h-2 on the STX825 waveguide to match the 4722. Still waiting on the driver to ship. Currently running a 3677 under the screen which works fine after EQ.

I don't mind sending them to Australia. They currently are in @beastaudio possession while he does testing. When he is done, they can be shipped directly to you. Not sure how big of a hurry your in.

no idea... not a prob with my 2x8 on the subs ... since subs... but way too noisy for compression drivers, even padded 12db.
