I have never done anything on this scale. I have looked at the titans but you have to buy two and I would rather buy one and try it before being all in. I have even went and bought me some clamps to build them.

I meant more towards building a JBL clone. Rob recently did some single 15" (2265HPL JBL Woofer) and 2453H-SL Compression driver & STX825 wave guide speakers running ACTIVE off Hypex amps. Parts run right at 3k, then just need to build some square cabs. I have never heard a Titan and don't disregard it but the JBL CD's are pure gold. Well and perhaps the JBL woofers too although Eminence is right there. Anyway this speaker is very close to an upgraded 4722 but much more manageable in respect to size and active benefits. Plus Hypex modules measure ultra low distortion and great amps. Surrounds would be much easier to build...

Hi everyone,

The post in not really alive as everyone is listening to film and music there! I have some more questions about your 4277 or 4722N.

Do you tried the preset provided by crown audio amplifier on your setup?

What do you think for example of the boost at 65Hz and 500Hz for LF? And what about the high Shelf eq at 500Hz? Do you know the main reason about those settings? Can they be applied the same way on the N passive version?

Thanks!

Next step: upgrade of CD!

Just purchased a pair of JBL 4722n speakers.

Hi,

The HP installed on my new (2019) 4722N are very different from the picture on JBL Pro and all other site.

Can you told me if this picture is really a 265H-2 HP?

Thanks a lot,

Those drivers look identical to the drivers that were in all of the 4722's I owned.

Same here, looks identical. I have three more weeks with my JBL 4722s and then they are being delivered to the new owner...a fellow AVS member. They have treated me awesome and will be missed. Best HT speakers I have owned to date.

I still recommend them to people all the time via PMs. I do prefer the M2s over the 4722 with 2 channel music, but for someone who is primarily home theater the M2 isn't worth the extra money in my opinion over the 4722 (upgraded compression driver). I bet the Be driver would narrow that gap even further. The primary advantage of the M2 appears to be the wave-guide and active equalization/tuning files. These M2s make the soundfield do things I didn't experience during critical listening with the 4722. In all fairness, I never tried active equalization and PEQ with the 4722 so there is another area that would improve the 4722. In short, during a movie soundtrack where one is captivated by video and bombastic audio, the M2 and 4722 are far more similar than different with both providing amazing presentation and authority. Would I part with my M2s - absolutely not; but, if the 4722 was the only speaker I owned for the rest of my life, it would be a great life.

Having proper dsp and electronic crossover is far more of an improvement than the Be compression drivers.

What do you think about the Crown DSI DSP?
Do you know why there are an eq to boot 65Hz and 500Hz on the preset for 4277?
