Well, the speakers have arrived and are hooked up. the speakers themselves are very nice units, very solidly built, with nice clarity. I think they represent an excellent value. Unfortunately, my listening environment isn't optimal for Atmos because of the angled ceiling, so I'm not getting the most from the speakers or (Pioneer 1130) receivers. The sound doesn't emanate from above the way it would in a better setting. But I don't think any of that fault lies with the equipment. If someone had a more suitable environment, I'd have no hesitancy in recommending both the receiver and the ELAC A4 Dolby add-on speakers. I think the system as a whole sounds better than it did before I got the additional pair of speakers but my room just isn't conducive to the most that Atmos can deliver, even with good source material (Atmos version of Gravity) and the receiver successfully passing the Atmos signal through to the speakers. The sound is very nuanced and localized but more in 2 than in 3 dimensions with my specific configuration. So, although I'm not thrilled with the end result, I don't fault the equipment in the least. While in theory I could play around with the A4 placement, trying to get them closer to the ceiling for a more reflective and elevated effect, as a practical matter, I don't think that'll fly in this particular room for a variety of reasons. But I'll keep the speakers because they are nice and do add something, if not quite what I'd hoped (perhaps unrealistically, given the room configuration).
