New House/New Speaker Setup

Hi All,
Haven't needed to post here in a while but we just moved into a new house that is pre-wired for speakers.

Already have a nice receiver but have no idea what do for speakers in the high pre-wired spots. I am hoping there is room for in wall just to make my wife happy.

Any suggestions for my new house...budget isn't super high but looking at a nice surround sound setup for movies. Also open to using my current center speaker if it makes sense to keep it at ear level.

Aimable in wall speakers?

No. Push hard for wall-mounted bookshelf speakers at least for your fronts, that would be much better because then you can angle the speakers horizontally and vertically at your main listening position...and those mere inches of positioning can make a HUGE difference.

I'd use smaller sealed-cabinet speakers rather than the bulkier rear-ported speakers in the photos, though.

Ascend HTM-200SE would be my first choice, followed by NHT SuperOnes or, even smaller, the SuperZeros. With the Ascends you'd use 3 identical speakers, with the NHTs you can either use 3 identical speakers or go with the NHT SuperCenter.

If your wife puts up a fight, offer a compromise of using in-walls or in-ceilings for the surrounds but box speakers for the front stage. It will be well worth the trouble.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

Are you planning to put the front speakers in those shelves set into the wall and putting your TV in that center shelf area?

How high is the bottom of those shelves; 6 feet?

If so, not ideal at all for video or audio as ideally all the front speakers should be at ear height when seated or eye level when seated for the video.

The rear speakers being high is not an issue though.
