I currently use my ref 1s with an SVS 4000 sub. On massive attack tracks and with films I prefer the low bass extension. It also means I’m not working the ref 1 speaker as hard.
To really appreciate the Reference 1's you need to give them lots of power. When I went from a single amp to tri-amping the sound improved dramatically, and it was pretty good with only a single amp!

I thought the current generation only has dual binding posts, so only bi-amping can be done? My 205/2s or 202/2c could be tri-amped however.

I never tried my Ref 1s with the Parasound JC 1 monoblocks (800 [email protected]Ω, [email protected]Ω), but the Ayre KV-5 Twenty ([email protected]Ω, [email protected]Ω) seems entirely adequate. I doubt I use more than a few Class A watts.

Check, but I think you may have those power ratings for 4Ω and 8Ω reversed.

My error. I have Reference 207s and the matched center channel. Sorry for the confusion.

Wow, those are arguably the most beautiful speakers that KEF ever produced! Do you have the 204c or 202c, and PICTURES?

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. My resistance to replacing the 107/2s with Ref 207/2s has been their appearance. I do have a 204/2C, but I plan to sell it as part of my downsizing. It's actually reasonably handsome in piano black.
