Loudness, yes I would expect the Chanes to be better.

Clarity, I would lean towards the Emotiva especially since the C1 is a 3 way design.

B1 vs A1.4, who knows? Most likely a coin toss.

But 3 x A2.4 LRC vs B1/C1 really wouldn't be a fair fight, given the dual woofers on the A2.4 vs single woofer on the B1.

Kind of like pitting an inline 4 vs a V8. :)

You right Zorbs. Its like the Chane's A1.4 vs. A2.4.

Clarity of Chane's is strong point....I would feel very comfortable as you crank it louder Chane's integrity would hold true...many ppl can validate this. Now, can Emotivas hold same clarity with increase in volume?

Whatever happened to the 8 speaker challenge you were going to do last August cheap skate??:mad:

Zorba needs more speakers like I need more birthdays (I'm getting old)! Look at me talking as I stumble around the SLS audio, Cambridge Audio and Def Tech SM450s speakers in my basement, unused at this time...

I imagine that the multi-woofer Emotivas can probably go a lot louder than the single woofer B1s.

Right now, a pair of A2.4 goes for $560 before shipping, I'm guessing at least $600 with shipping.

An extra $100, which would be about what most people spend on a nicer pair of stands, would buy you the Emotiva T1 which I'm sure can get plenty loud (despite the questionable 4 ohm spec):

LOL, true dat! The wife's patience is getting sorely tested. I've promised to get rid of my RBH R5Bi which have also been collecting dust for over a year, but am still trying to connive some way of hanging on to the Wharfedales. :D

I ended up choosing to do the Chane A2.4 for center, two A5.4s for front left/right and finally picked up a pair of the Elac OW4.2 when they were on sale.

Now for a subwoofer, I ended up talking to Tom at PSA a lot. My god people, I work at a bank and strive to have customer service that is as good as his. I ended up picking up a S3000I that was a C stock unit for what I personally felt like was a very good price. Still wondering if I should upgrade to something else but not sure yet.

Do you have everything up and running? Want to know your impressions of the A5.4s. I'm hearing they are really good.

I wish! I don't have the Chane's yet. They are supposed to dock tomorrow. A few days for processing then 4 days to ship to IN. I also joined the party late so my order might fall into the next batch. Could be up to 30 days out. When I spoke to Jon before, he seemed to think I would be in the first batch but wasn't 100% sure. I am currently expecting them maybe toward the end of the second week of July or the start of the third week of July. We'll see what happens though.

Right now, with nothing new in the market, its worth waiting for

It is easily worth the wait I assure you. Owned the A2.4's across the front and can say first hand that they produced the most cohesive sound I have ever owned! BTW, I am in SW Indiana myself very close to Evansville. What part of IN are you from? Just curious is all. Best wishes with your Chanes!

Cheers,

Phil

Hey guys, I ordered late in the game so I actually got bumped for the A5.4s until Mid-August. Which is totally fine, I knew the risk when I ordered so late in the group buy. Jon was extremely professional and friendly about it. Seriously a great guy.

I was talking to Tom about the S3000I that arrived today. We were having a conversation about his M-110s. We kind of worked out a deal, he told me to let him know tomorrow ish.

So what are your guys thoughts?

2 A5.4s and 1 A2.4

VS

2 - MT-110s and 1 - MT 110C

The PSA speakers will go much much louder, if spectacular high volumes without distortion or coloration is your goal.

Some people find that such capabilities are wasted if one doesn't listen that loud.

Others feel that higher-sensitivity speakers like the PSA will also have much faster transients, giving you a very dynamic, lively sound even at non-deafening levels.

Your call.

I don't listen super loud, my neighbors would have the HOA on the line immediately. I told Tom, I probably stay around -12.5 to -15.0 during movies. Music might go a tad louder but not very often...

I would personally love to do a head to head comparison with them myself.

If the Chane A2.4 had been available back in December I would have bought it as a mismatched center, and then possibly either the A1.4 or more A2.4 for my front L/R.

As it happens, I couldn't go on waiting indefinitely so I went ahead and got the Emotiva C1, which so impressed me that I bought the B1s for fronts not so much for any "timbre matching" hoo ha but to see how they'd compare to my beloved Wharfedales. The latter haven't been touched for a couple months, lol.

If the Chanes had been available in December I would have gone for them over the Emotiva mainly because I wasn't thrilled with the peculiar "Batmobile" looks of the Emotivas. Now, in retrospect, I think I might've stumbled onto the better choice mainly because the Emotiva center is a 3-way design whereas the A2.4 is a 2-way, and so many people swear that 3-ways are superior especially as horizontal center speakers. And the Batmobile looks have grown on me, or rather I've gotten used to them enough that I don't even notice it most of the time.

But if Emotiva ever did an MTM version of the B1, would love to compare to the A2.4 ...

Just wondering... would you consider mixing an Emotiva C1 with L/R A2.4s? I take it the impedance mis-match would rule that out?

Not at all.

From my and others' experience here, Emotiva uses impedance specs as a way to nudge you into buying their excellent (and probably more profitable) external amps.

So the answer is yes, the A2.4 + C1 would probably be perfectly fine.

Agreed. Shouldn't be any issue at all. Just use the AVR to correct any potential level mismatch, if present.

It’s so funny you say this, because the aesthetics of the Emo’s is one of the few things keeping me from going for a T1/C2 set for LCR. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder!

Check out the multiple speaker review thread, here. Not a direct head-to-head comparison, but both the T1 and the A5rx-c (predecessor to the A5.4) were listened to in the same room on the same day by three different people, who all commented on what they heard.

This was a great read! However, it did little to help me down select between Chane and Emo! If anything, it added the JBL 590’s and SVS Primes to my list!

On the plus side, it helped me cross off KEF and reminded me why I shouldn’t settle for Polk’s.

Yep, that stayed my hand for a long time too. Now I barely even notice because I'm too busy enjoying their sound.

However, it helps that I don't have a super-brightly lit living room where the speakers could become much more conspicuous.

Actually, based on what I read they were most impressed with the Emotiva T1s.
Also, the Chane’s towers but as some commented that was expected. But those two seemed like most positive.

Also, based on their review I’m very very happy I got the Emotiva T2 over the JBL590s...with JBL590 they noted distortion at high volumes, some bass imperfections, called them bright ,etc....

I think the Emotiva T1s really surprised them for price.

My T2’s rock...have had an audio freak over with multiple $3k + towers and he said T2s as good or better than the 3 or 4pairs he has. Impressive!!!

Yeah, I would agree with you. They straight up gushed over the T1’s and had very nice things to say about the Chanes. Despite the distortion on the 590s, what they said about them really resonated with me, but it was definitely more subjective. I also just dig the look of them.

That said, Chane A5.4 and Emotiva T1 are still my front runners. The Emo C2 center channel may end up being what sways me, but even then it seems like that would pair well with either tower!

If you get the Chane tower the A2.4 will work good as center

The C1 I'm hearing is great if you want to save money...I have the C1 and C2....The C2 is more dynamic no doubt

You cant go wrong with either tower.

I'm resurrecting this thread, because I'm torn between the Emotiova T1 and C1 combo, vs 3 Chane A2.4 LCR across my front room. These would be paired with 2 NHT Super Ones as my surrounds, and an HSU VTF2-MK5.

These are replacing a set of Paradigm 7MK3 SE and the Paradigm CC-300 center. Both sound good, and both have 6.5" drivers.

The Emotivas would be very similar size wise to what I have now, and the Chanes would be a good deal smaller.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

i think the t1's will probably sound marginally "bigger" than a2.4's , but if you have a small/ med. room i think it won't matter very much.. i think the centers will be very close.. i think either will sound very nice for the price point.. my b1's are great for music (unless the goal is *really* loud music).. they are great for ht as well... the amt is smooth . no harsh highs on decent recordings , harsh recordings can get a bit shrill , but less so than most budget speakers.. i think the chane's will also be pretty smooth, their tweeter is similar in sound..best of luck it's a close call , but i think there are no losers here...;)

On what information are you basing your opinion that the T1's will sound "marginally bigger"?

So if they're towers and just being bigger is better then they should be better than Sierra 2's right? Lol.

Have you heard either the T1 or the Chanes?
