flexibility between 5.1.4 and 7.1.2 rears vs sides
As the title states I am setting up a system that hopefully allows some flexibility but I am a bit unsure how the end result will be... any experience in having 2 atmos speakers 5 feet in front of MLP would be greatly appreciated
I will initially setup for 5.1.4 utilizing 4 in ceilings (5800 klipsch). My Marantz 7010 cant handle more than 9 amps so I will not be able to utilize all 4 in ceilings AND have side and rear surrounds. Thus, my solution is this. I will have my rear towers placed on the side surround position during 5.1.4 (I figure the rear ceilings will provide the immersion for the MLP).
Here is were it gets tricky. When I have guests sitting in the 2nd row I figure I will just reconfig the amp to 7.1.2 with the rear ceilings configured as rear surrounds and then atmos will only utilize the front two ceiling speakers. I figure I would also move the side tower surrounds a few feet to the second row/rear for immersion purposes also.
All in all the biggest question I have is will this 7.1.2 setup fail/sound like garbage? Second, would you generally go for side surrounds for the MLP or towers placed in the rear surround position?
In the future I will replace the Marantz with a 11 amp and then have both sides and rears. That isnt going to happen for a few more years.
