Anyone in SF south bay area (silicon valley) want to split a pair of DCM TP160S (cherry)?

I'm looking to use a single as a center to match my front L/R pair.

Food for thought: The TP160S is rated at 8ohms, so you could put both speakers side-by-side and wire them in parallel to create a double-wide 4-ohm center.

I ordered the 3 pack L/C/R and 2 more TP160S from priced right sales using the black friday discount code. Looking forward to hearing them for myself!

I currently have a Bic FH6-LCR which I really liked at first but feel like is underwhelming now. The sound stage seems to be very limited as the most glaring problem.

I'm seriously looking at Inifinity Reference R162s for L and R, and at $179 refurbished is quite the deal. I don't have the room for the RC263 center (WAF) so would be looking at the RC252 if I stayed in the Infinity Reference line. The DCM LCR would be about half as much money as even the refurb Inifinity's. Anybody heard both? Thanks much.

Get the Infinity. They are a steal right now with their Cyber Monday prices. The Infinity are a newer design and the components are definitely superior to what's in the DCM.

I have both the DCM and the R152. I've posted my impressions in this very thread some pages back. In short, the References series is a little better than the DCM.

Thanks youcan and goldark. I have been watching the Infinity Reference prices for a while now and they are all over the place between the refurbished and new speakers. Thanks for pointing out the Cyber Monday prices. Great deals. Thanks for your review goldark.

Why not solder the resistor directly to the tweeter terminals? Are they not easily accessible? Or is there a risk of damaging the tweeter this way?

Because (1) I wanted to recommend a method that everyone could use whether or not they had soldering skills and equipment, and (2) because, depending on the brand of resistor, it might be more difficult to solder at the terminals (and marginally more dangerous), where you're constrained by the short distance between the terminal lugs, than if you wired across the flexible positive and negative wires. But you can use any method you want as long as you end up with the resistor in parallel to the tweeter and as the last component in the tweeter Xover chain.

Another happy DCM customer who had some Polk speakers prior to the DCM's

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/122-g...l#post58905368

"I was “showing the polks off” to my cousin on Saturday night with the opening scene of bumble bee... to my ear, they sounded decent or at least much better than my onkyo speakers....

But WOW.... I just watched the opening scene again... and the DCMs sound waaaaay clearer than the polks did.... the speech is much easier to understand"

These are rare good deals that only come once in a while in the speaker world.

When I try to fit it, the ends of the leads of the Meniscus resistor just barely reached the terminals because there is a large aluminum casing around the tweeter.

Only 9 left on ebay - gone up to $109. Don't think those will sell fast. I'd at least have kept it under 100.

I recommended a pair of the TFE towers and matching center to a friend that was looking at some low end Polks. He picked up the DCM's instead and is very impressed.

Thanks. Yeah, I suspected that magnetic shielding could be getting in the way of clear access to the terminals.

What's your final verdict on this mod? Worth the effort?

Post 749 on p.25

As Dennis says, if you find the highs a bit harsh or too much, I would recommend doing it.

Yes, I've read that. I was just curious if you had anything else to add now that you've had this mod for two additional weeks.

Once I get them installed in my target setup (garage), I'll see how they sound and decide at that point whether this mod is needed. Thanks.

Oh if you're going to put it in a garage - then do it. Or not as you probably won't hear much difference there, mostly in terms of it smoothing out the upper end and that I assume you're not going to do any critical listening there. For anyone thinking about it, it's not really going to change its basic characteristic sound.

Do it only if you're not that crazy about its upper frequencies.

Need to figure out what the next budget standout speaker is since the TP160's days are numbered.

There is still the black finish -- and they are still worth the current price
