They definitely have a signature sound. They're warm but also detailed too. They have a nice tweeter. I get their looks aren't going to appeal to everyone. And no matching center, lol. I'm looking forward to Tharbamar's review of them. I trust his reviews. I like them. If get back into a house soon I wouldn't mind having a pair again for a separate 2-channel system.

I would like to hear them to see if they are really better than the former studio monitor series -- I have owned a few Definitive speakers in the past

i have debated getting them .. although now i am thinking about some entry level dyns.. i have the wharfedale 10.1s , they are pretty good but the detail isn't quite what i might like , everything else is pretty much a to a- , they image like crazy , with a very 3D type soundstage..not wide like kef but deep...i imagine the denton's are similar in that respect..

Well I am stuck with the Fatman Red-i speakers again -- the 3020i has been returned and someone bought my Hafler 200 today (made a profit) --

And it looks like the Chane A1.4 is not available -- so it may come down to the Paradigm Monitor SE Atom or Dali Zensor 1 or Emotiva B1 or I will buy another Canton

B1 vs Chrono would be an interesting test. Although I'm not sure if you want to bother with head-to-head comparisons like that, more expensive and a bigger pain with returns.

I like how the cones are made of New Zealand paper pulp. Clearly, NZ must have better trees!

That said, this is clearly a shot over the bow of Emotiva ..... who do not use paper pulp from New Zealand!

Monolith vs B1 then would be pretty interesting.

I'm seeing a really big price difference on those monoliths compared to monoprice's own website. Amazon is currently half the price... odd... $200 vs $400 set is kind of a big difference.

Anyway, now may be the time to try them if you are so inclined. Not sure if it's a temporary sale or whatever.

I wonder if Monoprice is closing out the Monolith Cinema series speakers? The Monolith Cinema center channel is no longer even on the Monoprice site. The Cinema 5 bookshelf speakers are one of the few speakers I've seen Z-reviews not like. On the flip-side, Audioholics and HTS really liked the speakers. I'm tempted to buy 3 of the Cinema 5 bookshelf speakers to use as the front-court for my mini-theater room. I was always curious about these speakers.

EDIT: Nevermind, now the Cinema center is showing up. Really odd, as it didn't pull up on monoprice.com earlier.

EDIT II: Amazon only shows 8 left in stock, so that pulled me over the edge. I ordered 3 of the Cinema 5 speakers.

EDIT III: Shortly after I placed my order, now the price on the Cinema 5 price has jumped to $188.98.

Since they raised the price, they have now been dropped off my list -- have fun, but I do suspect that they will need some type of crossover mod

Not sure if they made an adjustment to the 1st order XO after the initial production runs or not. I know something was mentioned about that in the audioholics review that Monoprice was likely going to tweak the upper range for subsequent production. TA over at HTS really raved about these speakers in his review. At any rate, for some reason the half off price "poofed" right after I ordered. Worst case scenario I'll just send them back to Amazon for a refund. I know I won't be doing any XO mod under any circumstances.

Amazon sometimes has weird inventory-based pricing from time to time, or at least they used to. I remember they did that with Cantons years ago. I guess it was their way of reducing inventory before deciding not to carry a specific model (at least directly). If I knew then what I know now, I would have gobbled up some of those Cantons.

But prices would move up and down like a stock market. Eventually when low enough and if any were bought, up the price went. Kind of annoying though for it to go up so much.

Do you have any similar style speakers to compare them to, chanes, mls or emotivas? That would be an interesting direct comparison.

I don't have anything on hand with say AMT or ribbon tweeters to compare the Monolith C5's to when they roll in. I will say they look like they are really well made and use a beefy woofer. Monoprice certainly didn't cut any corners with their Monolith subs or speakers.

PSB Alpha B1?

The smaller powered version measured quite well, in fact all modern PSBs seem to measure well.

Yeah, PSB is one of those brands that uses that Canadian lab that I believe Revel uses to measure all their speakers now.

"With the cooperation of Canada's National Research Council (NRC), in the year 2000 the SoundStage! Network began measuring and publishing objective measurements of loudspeaker products -- a first for online publications.

The NRC's legacy of producing accurate loudspeaker measurements goes back decades. Literally thousands of speakers have been measured in their facilities since the '70s, and they are one of the few facilities in the world with the resources and expertise to conduct such tests.

The NRC facilities have, of course, been continually upgraded and today it's a state-of-the-art laboratory that includes an anechoic chamber, reference-grade test equipment, experienced staff, and a standardized process that is used consistently for all products. The end result are measurements that we feel are a benchmark for the industry, and useful for anyone wishing to obtain accurate, objective data about loudspeaker products."

Had no idea NAD still made speakers.

My first center channel in an otherwise all B&W speaker system in 1986 was a powered NAD speaker flopped on its side.

Sounded just fine but is long gone; gave it to my brother who then gave it away to a friend or colleague.

The NHT SuperOne 2.1 has been ordered -- the price of $105 each is a good one .... at least Fatman Red-i can go back to sleep .... will see if the NHT will survive, I do have some Sonic Barrier if needed, but the NHT needs to be good enough for me to void the warranty.

Passed on the Monitor SE Atom because of a rise (mushroom cloud) from 5 to 10 khz on axis and the listening window ... but will keep them in mind

The SuperOne 2.1 are here -- they are easier on the ears compared to the Q A 3020i -- And much less hollow and boxy sounding compared to the 3020i speakers -- they do not honk like the Q A 3020i speakers and did not honk on Spanish Harlem, plus they are more cohesive sounding compared to the 3020i -- for $206 a pair they are really a nice deal. Still testing them, but I would easily take them over the SuperZero's which pretty much have no bass and are more thin sounding. I will share the pictures of the inside and crossover later
