height of in-wall speakers for surrounds or rears

Hi all, I read once that in-wall speakers for your surrounds or rears should be 6 feet above the floor. that doesn't make sense to me. shouldn't they be at ear height?

Well, they aren’t at ear height in movie theaters…

I find ear-height speakers directly to the sides that are close to the LP to be very “localizable” and highly distracting. If you can keep them 8-10 ft away, then ear-height is fine.
