So here is the deal I have a older SVS system now. Which consist of 3 scs-01s for front L-R and center 2 sbs-01s and a 20-39pci sub. Running a Pioneer VSX-831 80w I'll replace the Pioneer at some point. So I'm 46 my income will be going down in a year or so due to some life changes and I wanted to go ahead and upgrade now with some good tower speakers while I still have the cash and that will last me for quite a LONG time. My listening is 50/50 music/tv but my ear is MUCH more concerned with the music aspect. I have at least $1000 to spend I can spend more but only of I get a really good return on it. I listen to mostly Classical soundtracks think Game of thrones and Lord of the rings with some jazz and classic rock thrown in. I do like warm and fairly easy listing not over tinny and harsh. "Love" music separation. Aesthetically pleasing speakers like the Kilpsh or KEF would be a nice bonus. Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions gentlemen.

Look into these Dali speakers, I have an older pair of bookshelf speakers from them, great for music very adept to movies/TV as well. Dali makes some very high-end audiophile speakers, this is their entry level line. Conveniently sold on amazon too.

I know you said towers but the Ascend CMT-340 is on sale right now for less that $500.00 per pair, if you add their stands and a center channel you still come in less than $1000.00 and since you have a sub I would be willing to bet they would best most $1000.00 towers.

I little old but still a good read.

m0j0 03-14-2019 06:37 AM

I would say the Polk LSiM 705s, but only when they are on sale. When on sale at Adorama, you can get them from between 1,000 and 1,200 for a pair.

This ^^^

You won't get more laid back and easy listening than Wharedale for < $1000. Elac Debut 2.0 would also be worth a listen. Kef would provide very good detail, clarity and will image very well, but will be more treble forward (brighter) than Wharfedale and Elac.

Lp85253 03-14-2019 08:39 AM

another option : emotiva t2

Captain Crunch 03-14-2019 09:00 AM

WOW those Wharfedale - Reva 3's in ROSEWOOD are Gorgeous , https://paragonsns2.imgix.net/wp-con...?w=1024&h=1024

Emotiva T2
JBL 590 when on sale for $500 each.

chadsmith013 03-14-2019 01:48 PM

DIY......DIYSG 1099's.

Bigbirney 03-14-2019 01:49 PM

ELAC Uni Fi towers. I loved them for music, but they are not real efficient.

Pair of these KEF's would fit the bill nicely
https://www.accessories4less.com/mak...ck-each/1.html

I run the Q300 in my upstairs living room and they are nice.

Yea I saw those Kef's on A4L earlier Bigbirney and there was some serious drooling going on.
I wish there were more reviews out there of what kinds of music people think certain models of speakers are good for. Hell I cant hardly even find a review on the WHARFEDALE - Reva3s. I'll have to do some more searching in AVS and see what people are saying. Sooooooo many good speakers it's Really hard to narrow it down.

rexrode78 03-14-2019 05:16 PM

I have been extremely happy w/ the Emotiva T2's since getting them early February.
Have played a lot of classic rock as well as a lot of heavy stuff like Slipknot on them, never painful to sit in front of.
Some action movies such as Lone Survivor, Hunter Killer, & Ready Player One sounded great as well. Bohemian Rhapsody was amazing!!

Well if its any help, I listen to it all. Reggae, Metal, 90s alternative, even some R&B and Rap. The Kef's do it all pretty well, and I only have the bookshelves. My ELAC Debuts downstairs are also very capable for music, and I only have the original versions. You cant go wrong with any of the suggestions, but its nice to be able to hear them yourself. Even in this lousy town I live in we are blessed to have some of the best audio shops in the country.

The closest speaker maker to you is Emotiva in Nashville if you ever go there might be worth a stop.

The next closest is Chane in Tampa.

Otherwise, another Crutchfield choice which is where I STRONGLY recommend you buy no matter which of the excellent choices from them have been presented already.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_405QCY...ak.html?tp=185

Recent reviews of another KLH tower:

https://www.avsforum.com/klh-kendall...eakers-review/

https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/...system-review/

Why Crutchfield?

$75/pair return shipping within 60 days if not happy.

That's about 1/3 of what the real cost would be anywhere else.

Nashville is about 6 hours away so Crutchfield is probably a better bet for me although I'm still going to "try" and get to Atlanta and hopefully audition a few.
I didn't know about Crutchfields return policy so thank you very much for the info that's very helpful and yea 75 is worth piece of mind.

I would keep the Reva on a short list

Z The Reva 3&4s you suggested ARE on the TOP of my list. There Gorgeous and extremely good speakers from the few review's I was able to find. I just want to find a place to listen to them before I sink a butt load of money one them.

You could order the bookshelf version of whichever speaker you'd like to audition from Crutchfield since return shipping is only $10 on those. Bookshelf speakers will be a lot easier to pack, carry around and ship. Chances are you'll like the towers if you like the bookshelves.

HMMMMMMMMMMM Now that's an idea.

Fast351 03-16-2019 06:44 AM

I know you mentioned floorstanders, but Ascend has a sale on their Sierra 2s right now:

http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages...SRM2/srm2.html

For music and clarity they can't be beat. I have the towers (which are more expensive) and they sound fantastic.

You mentioned "warmth" and "not too tinny".

I would stay away from anything with a horn in that case (like Klipsch).

Some brands I would also recommend (no specific order, and you'll have to see which models fit in your budget:

Paradigm
Monitor Audio
KEF
Polk (LSI series)

Yes, it's a very good idea.

For the cost of buying then returning a pair of towers you can order about 4 sets of bookshelves for a shootout.

More entertaining for us in the peanut gallery as well.

PrestigeAudio 03-16-2019 12:09 PM

I think the KLH Kendall would be a pair worth looking at. Should be able to be done under $1,000. I have a sample pair coming in shortly and can give some thoughts on it.

Cruthfield now has the speaker compare tool. Of course nothing will beat auditioning in your room, but this would at least give you a general idea what the speakers sound like and could help narrow down the list of potential keepers.

Those Wharfedale Reva's in rosewood are absolutely stunning to look at. Price on them is pretty good too.

Captain Crunch 03-16-2019 01:37 PM

So I just found this online...........

For Sale a pair of 2017 Wharfedale Reva-4 speakers in Rosewood WITH Isoacoustics GAIA III isolation feet. No scratches or dings. The Isolation feet themselves are a $400 value. Beautiful in appearance, wonderful sounding speakers that will work in a medium to large room, very accurate and with the GAIA Isolation feet, amazing soundfield and soundstage. Selling due to system downsize. $899.00

For that price I'm half tempted to just buy them but it used sight unseen and I still have never herd them yet. It's safer to wait and to do a trial from Crutchfield with the speakers but .......OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH The temptation.:eek::eek:

https://ucarecdn.audiogon.com/1dbbbb...eview/700x470/

Captain Crunch 03-16-2019 02:15 PM

First let me say thank you for you input guys your a big help.

So I spoke to a rep at Cruthfield and can even order certain towers and still only pay the $10 return. In fact as long as I end up buying "Something" from them I wont have to pay the fee as long as I buy from them................Hell of a deal.
So I have narrowed it down to

Wharfedale = Reva 3,4 & Diamond 250

Monitor Audio = Bronze 6 & Silver 8

KEF = Q 550 & 750

ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2 & Uni-Fi UF5

I talked to the rep about the PSBs but he said there is a serious sweet spot you have to sit in and I wont be able to make that happen so PSB's are out .

Yea I have to narrow these down some more............

Just to go over my criteria real quick.

Easy listening not to harsh or fatiguing

I listen to mostly Sound tracks think Game of Thrones and the like with lots of violin with some rock, country and jazz.

Good separation

Dont want a sweet spot.

Hopefully pretty efficient. Yea I know I will probably have to get an amp.

I don't listen to music Very Loud.

Just in case you have any words of wisdom I'm all ears.

Lol, those just might be your huckleberry! I'll also vouch for the Dali Oberon speakers, as I heard the Oberon 7 at RMAF and they bowled my and my buddies over. I'd also definitely look at those Monitor Audio Silver 8.

Here is my pic of the Dali Oberon 7 from RMAF:
