2.1 setup suggestion

I’m looking at getting a 2.1 setup for music and movies on my tv and as well as my computer. I have narrowed down to two choices.

1. Logitech z625

2. Insignia bluetooth bookshelf speakers (can’t post the link. It won’t let me)

AND Polk audio 100w 10 in subwoofer psw10

My worry is that the 100 w sub won’t be enough for my room. I’m not sure if that is correct. I have a pretty normal sized room.

Thanks

If you can swing $199.00 for a sub this one is on sale and would be better than the Polk.

Are you dead set on the Logitech? Do you have room for powered monitors like the JBL 305 or 306? They sound very nice.

If you choose little powered speakers like the logitech or insignia, first make sure they can do proper sub out. You can't always just connect a regular powered subwoofer to PC speakers, sometimes they have proprietary connections or don't have an option for a sub at all.

A small $50-$100 amp + passive speakers + sub may be a better option.

Also be aware that if you want to use powered speakers with your TV, either the speakers will need to come with a remote or your TV probably will need to do analog out. Otherwise I don't think you'll be able to control volume unless you plan to manually adjust them ... which I guess is one way to get some extra exercise, but I expect most folks wouldn't enjoy it very much.

I have the Insignia powered Bluetooth speakers and they are pretty solid for what they are. They do have a sub-out jack, but it is a fixed output. This means as you turn up the volume level on the speakers from the speaker or remote, the sub output remains constant, not increasing or decreasing with the speaker volume. I mainly use mine strictly for Bluetooth paired to my phone. The sub level will match the volume level when turning the volume up or down via my phone. I'm unsure how that would apply hooked up to say a TV.

As far as a subwoofer goes, I would pass on the Polk PSW10, which I used to own, or PSW108, which are pretty close to the same mediocre sub. The JBL 550p that cocrh linked to is a great option when under $200, but unfortunately it's not on sale right now. The Bic V1220, which I also used to own, is currently $179.99 @amazon . That's a solid budget sub and will be far better than either of those Polk subs I mentioned above.

Oh wow. I just looked at the JBL sub this morning and it said 199.00. Now it is 599. Must have just ended. Sorry about the JBL links. Something in AVS is trying to monetize links and send you elsewhere. I just googled the JBL 550 and saw it on sale so posted it. Too bad it is not anymore.

Yeah, I think when JBL runs sales they usually end Monday morning. I'm sure the 550p will be on sale again sooner rather than later. It's definitely a good sub for under $200, but nowhere near worth the regular $600 price.

For the price the JBL powered monitors and sub are a great price. You can pick them up and the needed cabling for under $600.00. A great little setup that I use with my computer along with the PreSonus AudioBix iOne 2x2 for under $100.00 if needed

So from what I’ve read, I’m pretty set in the insignia speakers because it has a remote and Bluetooth. It also has a sub out. I am able to connect via TVs with my tv. The only thing that bugs me is that the sub may not be enough oomph for the money. The other thing is that you would have to control the sub separately when using it in the tv. The Polk sub runs for 129. Id be open to buying a used powered sub that’s better around the same price. My price range is pretty much the cheaper the better because I’m in college.

I actually just found the jbl arena 100p. It’s about the same price refurbished. Is this better? It does have more wattage.

You really don't want to go as cheap as possible on a subwoofer. The Dayton sub-1200 is a bit cheaper than the Bic V1220, currently priced at $148. I would still pay the little bit extra to get the V1220 and this is coming from somebody who has owned both. Either of those, however, is a better option than the Polk PSW10. Even worse, $129 is a bit steep for the PSW10, which is often on sale for $79-$99. If you truly want to go as inexpensive as you can, I would buy the Elac S8 for $95. I have that sub in my son's room and it is similar to the Pioneer SW-8MK2, both designed by Andrew Jones. The Elac S8 doesn't have much extension, but neither does the PSW10. The S8 has a bit tighter sound to it compared to the PSW10 and less chance of port noise.
