Bookshelf speakers

Good afternoon all,
This is my first post and hopefully I can get some info to go into the right direction. I have finally upgraded and purchased my first smart TV. I decided to start upgrading my over decade old audio system.

I purchased a Marantz NR1609 to replace my Onkyo TX-SR304. Now it's time to move to new speakers. I am replacing an Acoustimass 3 system.

I am thinking of going with ELAC Debut 2.0 speakers and a Klipsch Reference Series 10" subwoofer. My living room is not that big and I will be using my 1984 Technics 1200 SL turntable with this system as well.

Your opinions of my choices please.

I forgot to add that I would like a center speaker but do not have a preference yet.

Marantz NR1609
RSL CG3 x 2
RSL CG23 center channel
RSL Speedwoofer 10S

I’d start with a 12” subwoofer from either Rythmik or HSU.

From there you can determine what your budget is for speakers. I’d guess $400, depending on which sub you get, but you can get a pair of Ascend CBM170SE’s or Emotiva B1’s.

The Elac’s are really only a good choice when on sale for 50% off, if not, there are way better choices in the $300 range.

That is a nice but not hugely powerful receiver so you want relatively high efficiency speakers.

This would be a very nice $900 3.1 system.

https://rslspeakers.com/products/cg2...heater-system/

The 5.1 system is a bit over budget so if it is a very tight budget there are options for $100/pair surrounds.

https://rslspeakers.com/products/cg2...heater-system/

These would work just fine for rear surrounds at $100/pair.

My living room is only approx 14 x 20, would the 12 be too much?

Emotiva mentioned for a second time. Definitely going to look them up! Thanks.

I just noticed that the new CG3 5.1 system is only $79 over budget.

https://rslspeakers.com/products/cg3...heater-system/

And the new special edition is bang on your budget but you need to be able to place one of the new CG3s vertically as a center and it's 9.5" tall.

Forgive my ignorance but this if from the first link under Minus: Sats can be a bit power-hungry in larger rooms
What is a Sats?

Sats = small satellite speakers; in this review it refers to the CG3s.

So you may be better of with the less power hungry CG23 3.1 system and the Polks I linked as satellite surrounds.

RSL has free returns if you are worried but unless you have a very large room and like to listen at very loud levels the CG23 3.1 system + Polk surrounds should work very well.

It will certainly be head and shoulders above what you had before.

Have a look at Ascend Acoustics speakers. They will outperform the Elac's for around the same price.

Well everyone, I got them all hooked up and man.....I am blown away!! The sound is amazing to say the least. I have owned nothing but Bose since the early 90's and cannot believe what I have been missing. I spent the last 4 days binge watching movies because I never heard such great sound. That subwoofer....I've had to straighten pictures already! My wife keeps thinking she is hearing thunder LOL
Also, RSL just started offering the speakers I bought as a package now but for $20 more. Glad I ordered when I did!

For $850 you easily blow away a Bose setup costing 3 to 4 times the price. I think that's one of the main reasons Bose isn't very well liked in the forum. They're way overpriced for what they offer.

Glad you're enjoying the new setup! Now get a 2nd Speedwoofer and you're all set.
