Question Open concept living area - speakers + setup

Like many now a days, we'll be moving into a house with a very open floor plan. I'm posting here in the hope of getting some advice and opinions. The question isn't too uncommon I guess, but given the layout as shown, would you attempt a surround sound install in the living area (far upper right of image, to the right of the covered back porch)? The idea is for a wall mounted television centered on the wall across from the windows onto the covered porch.

Unlike some others, I'm lucky enough to have three walls around the living room, so I do have a back wall where I was considering mounting some shelves up near the (9ft) ceiling to hold rears... but I can't help but wonder if it is just going to be a disappointing experience / worth doing due to the open concept in play?

Finally, considering all of that, if given a modest $2500 - $4000 budget, what type of speaker and AVR setup would you, the reader, consider purchasing? Given time, we'd like to finish a proper media room in the basement, but this area will see a lot of TV, movie, and video game use and I'd like it to be enjoyable from that perspective if at all possible... again, considering the open concept at play.

Any advice or discussion will be much appreciated! Thanks for reading.

What city are you in just in case a quality local manufacturer is in your area?

It is a 2 1/2 hour drive, so that wouldn't be much of a hassle.

Visiting those 2 in the same day, (call ahead), would be a great idea.

Visit both web sites, PSA are great but their "look" may not be to your taste.

Thanks, I'm looking now. I have heard of SVS before, but I had no idea they were based in Ohio.

The founder of SVS sold it to the current owners and founded PSA.

Receiver with audio correction feature is a must in an open room: Audyssey, etc.

Thanks - I have a relatively old Onkyo that needs retired that has Audyssey, so I am somewhat familiar with it. I was relatively impressed with how easy it was to use, I imagine it has only gotten better.
