Should I keep my studio monitors?

Hi all, I'm going to keep it simple. I was left a pair of Behringer 8" Truth Active Studio Monitors. I use them purely for listening to music (through my PC using this Edirol UA-700 that was also left for me) and wouldn't have the slightest clue what they're actually capable of doing. But I love them and I reckon they sound pretty good.

I want to use a spare room (that is 3.6m x 6m and tiled) in the house for listening to my music only. I want to gradually build a budget sound system where I could listen to my cd's, mp3's and vinyls.

Questions:

1. Would it be ideal to use my studio monitors as the sound source for my system?

1.1 You see, I've seen some (but not heard, (yes, I'm an idiot)) bookshelf speakers and they kinda dwarf when compared to these Behringers. But yes, I do understand that it's all about the quality so am I missing out not having stereo speakers?
2. If so to Q1, what do I need to run these things?
3. If not to Q1, why?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Sure, why not?

You'd need a preamp.

This is an excellent one but might be over budget.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the reply.

Will a preamp actually enhance the audio quality from the speakers as opposed to the sound I'm currently receiving through my Edirol connected to my PC?

Oh, I thought you were looking for a different preamp.

If it sounds good then by all means party on! :p
