Does The Sleeve Of A Banana Plug Conduct Electricity?

2 Attachment(s)
I have some 90 degree angle Nakamichi banana plugs connected to my speakers that are on speaker stands. Unfortunately, the clearance in back is very minimal, which is why I needed the 90 degree plugs. They work, but the outer sleeve of each plug is touching the metal speaker pole.

I'm wondering if the outer sleeve of the banana plug conducts a signal? Will this setup cause a short?

Dunno.

Maybe it'd be worth a $10 investment in a cheap DVM (digital volt meter), which could be used to check it.

My guess? The metal shell of the banana plug is connected to the plug. The paint on the pole may save you, but you may not wish to rely on that. Black electrical tape, maybe?

I literally didn't even think of that. 5 minutes later and a quick fix. Thanks!

Yes, if wired correctly most of them should be negative voltage or ground for one leg and positive for the other. It would not be a good idea for them to be touching other metal parts. Painted parts don't always conduct electricity but over time vibrations can wear away the paint. An easy fix would be a few wraps of electrical tape.

Really?

My speaker wires are unshielded.
