Monitor Audio

Any thoughts on the Monitor Audio speakers?

I was looking at

Silver 500s for the front
Silver 350 for the center
Silver 200 for the rears

I already have a sub

How do these speakers stand up to the competition and what is their competition?

I was initially looking at the Golden Ears but these seem to be at a better price point.

Thanks

Listening window for the Silver 200s looks promising; not measurement on Soundstage for the 500s though.

The bottom Listening Window is for the Golden Ear Triton One.R.

MA is a good brand. I prefer then to GE by a lot, GE is overhyped IMO.

Competition - really anyone in the same price range, however I’d list; Paradigm, Kef, ELAC, Dynaudio, Dali, Revel, PSB. Or internet direct brands like Salk, Ascend Acoustics.

Where are you located in case there is a local speaker maker near you or an excellent well known retailer?

The GEs have a sharp rise starting around 5khz which is near the top of a pianos range and beyond so will sound "brighter" by far which some like but most find a bit too much.

Most people like warm or neutral with music, those seeking movies usually want a brighter sound with higher sensitivity so they can push volume more easily.

The Monitor Audio Gold Signature speakers I bought 10 years ago are still what I use in my main system. I have not seen any reason at all to upgrade.

The current generation Silver series are probably on the same level if not better since they are 3-4 generations newer.

Tower Cinema - 9.1.6 in a 12'x12' room
Input : Nvidia Shield TV, Panasonic DMP-UB400
Magic : Marantz SR7010, Marantz SR6010, 2x NAD T743
Output : Panasonic TX65EZ952B, SVS PB13 Ultra, Monitor Audio GSLCR 2xGS20 2xGS10 4xGSFX 6xBX1

That's a pretty accurate and comprehensive list. I would add B&W even though the prices have gone up a lot with the more recent generations.

2-channel: MA Silver 2 (5th Gen), Music Fidelity M2si, B&W ASW608, Rega RP1, Pro-Ject Phono Box, Marantz CD5004
Office: DefTech Demand D9, Cambridge Audio SR20, Lenovo ideapad, AQ Dragonfly Red
Living Room: 3 x KEF Q150, B&W ASW610, Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
