Post New speakers wanted (always?)

Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for new LCR. This system is 90/10 for movies/TV, but I still like to listen to music in this room as it is where my best turntable and phono stage reside currently as well as SACD capable player.

I've auditioned GoldenEar Triton 7s a few years ago but always heard the center speaker doesn't perform well. That makes me sad since the Tritons really excited me for music and nothing I've had or heard since then really moves the needle to that level. They are also slightly out of budget when adding the center.

First, the room
23x21x8, mostly open to kitchen/dining. A partial wall (breakfast bar and two arched openings) give a little bit of wall for reflections and a slightly angled portion for the fireplace shares a wall with the TV. The wall where the gear is located is roughly 13' before it opens to the full 21'.
wood floors with a 5x7 carpet between MLP and TV stand. (speaker stands are actually outside of this area, but I am looking for an 8x10 carpet)

Current gear
Denon X4400H
Sony 60" 4k HDR TV which is about 9.5' from MLP
SVS Ultra bookshelf on 36" stands
SVS SB-12NSD

Other gear options (I already own)
KEF Q100 (currently used for PC desktop. Have also heard the center is overpriced)
Emotiva B1

Budget
for new LCR, $1500 or so

I somehow think that I want some towers at this point. I like the SVS Ultras, but they don't excite me (never heard their towers). I don't hate them by any means but the center is so expensive I just wonder if there are better ways to spend the money.

Sometimes our circuits get shorted by external interference,
Signals get crossed and the balance distorted by internal incoherence.

For 90% movies, have you looked at PSA at all? They are a great home theater speaker. Their towers would be out of your stated budget, but their bookshelf speakers would be close to your budget. They aren't small bookshelves, so dont let that deter you. They use 10" woofers with a horn loaded compression driver and are very efficient (95db). The owner came from SVS actually (I want to say he was the "V" SVS but I cant remember for sure).

They'd be great for your large space. I dont listen to much music, so I can't speak to their capability on that front.

I’d check out Klipsch. Their latest RP series is phenomenal, gaining plenty of rave reviews from audiophiles and hobbyists alike.

RP8000F’s + RP504C would make a fantastic front stage.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

I have seen these before and heard good things but with center it's over $2k. Shouldn't I be worried about a 10" woofer that only is rated to 70Hz? I guess reviewers don't have issue with that.

Polk LSiM line is very good. Wish the really good sale was going but this price is pretty good too.

Polk LSiM 703 bookshelf speakers:

There is a multiple speaker discount. If you got 3 I think the price is $1800.

As far as the crossover, are you using subs? I have my speaker crossover at 80/90hz and the subs take care of everything below that. They aren't meant to be a full range speaker if that is what you are after. The sealed design with the 10"driver is what allows it to be so efficient. Reference capable from standard receiver power in most applications.

I have seen the Polk LSiM 703's on sale quite often for only $300 each @Adorama! Adding the LSiM 704C center for $300 more is certainly a super deal. However, as linked above, the 703's are $749 for a set right now. That is still a very good deal. Mated to a capable sub or subs would make for one stellar setup inmho. Best wishes to the OP in making his decision.

Cheers,

Phil

Was the sale on Dynaudio 14 from Safe and Sound? or is there a better price somewhere else.

The X28 has larger drivers so might be a bit better as a center.

Polk's ebay store indicates buy 4 LSi M703s and get a free LSi M706. I could use the 2nd pair of 703s in a bedroom set-up.

Yeah, that does sound like a good deal. Plus, the bigger and more capable center in the LSiM 706C. Are these A-stocks or B-stocks? I have bought refurbished Polk speakers before and never had an issue. Everything looked and performed as new. Should serve you well should you decide to go in that direction.

$1500 for LCR, want towers for LR... what comes to mind is:

* Emotiva T2 mains with a C2 center. (~$1100)
* PSB Imagine X1T with an XC center (~$1300)
* QAcoustics Concept 40 with Concept center (~$1300)

You sound like a perfect candidate for Chane. That leaf tweeter has similar characteristics to the AMT used in the Golden Ear, and the split-gap mid-woofs provide a surprising amount of bass. A pair of the 5s and a 2 for the center.

I would think A-stock as the description says NEW.

That’s a great deal. Those bookshelves sound amazing and the center is what I currently use in my HT.
