Should I change my JBL 590 for JBL 520c

Folks - I purchased the three JBL590s when they were on sale less than a month back. I wanted to use them for an AT Screen flanking left, right and center. Since then I have run into some construction difficulties and the placement of an AT screen is still under discussion. I see that the 520c is on sale for Father's day for $149. Should I return one of my 590s and replace with this so that I have flexibility on placement of center channel regardless of whether I do an AT screen or not? Your immediate attention is appreciated as the return window is closing.

Yes, if you are not going with an AT screen, that would probably be the prudent thing to do. What kind of problems did you run into?

If you can put in an AT screen you will definitely want the third 590. I would return the 590 get the 520 but if you can go the AT route and make the third 590 work, do that (meaning you may have to order another 590).

Hello - I already have three 590s. Why would I need to order another?

I am saying if you return the 590 for 520 and then later determine you can have a third 590 as a center I would do that (get another 590 for a center). It will be far superior to the 520. I have 3 590's now as well as a pair of 530's and a 520. A 590 and 520 are not in the same league but obviously the 590 is much bigger.

Wouldn't I then be left with an unused 520?

I would not recommend 4" woofer for a center channel...while not a compression driver, this would be a better center: https://www.infinityspeakers.com/cen...urrent#start=1

on sale now..don't know how long it will be on sale.

When will you know if you can fit a 590 as a center channel? Would you be in the return window for the 520? Worse case you have to sell it yourself and are out some money.

Or I could just stick with the 590s if you say they are good to use as a center channel.

It is an excellent center channel. Very good dispersion and overall bass.

I hope you discuss this in detail. The biggest mistake I've done in HT is not having AT screen in the beginning. I end up wasting so much to re-buy speaker and screen (and the whole setup placement).

Very small investment; order and see for yourself.

It just might surprise you despite its small size.

Question about the capability of the 520c is answered here.

It actually sounds like three 520cs placed horizontally would make a great budget front three.

How about three 590s in the front and two 580s for surrounds?

Assuming they are all placed vertically I'm sure that would be a great combination...assuming you like the sound of the 590s.

I started using the 590s yesterday and they are great. I plan to have an AT screen with three 590s in the back. Room size with be about 12x13 and wondering if the two 580s in the back would be too much for the room size.

For me it would be too much as I'd essentially be sitting right next to the 580s...and for people on either end of the couch they'd get a huge dose of either the left or right surround depending on where they sit.

In such a small room I'd likely use two 520s placed horizontally as rears...likely placed three feet or so above the end table of the couch as it sounds like the couch must be against the rear wall as mine is.

What do a decent pair of surrounds cost that can work with the 590s? Don't have to be JBL.

I'd use the 520cs mounted horizontally.

But my rears don't match my fronts so likely a pair of Klipsch RP400ms or RP500ms would be a good match for a bit less money.

Free returns at Best Buy assuming they have them in stock.

I have the 590s. What would be a matching surround for that and what kind of cost?

Asked and answered.

Pair of 520s are $500, RP400s $350, RP500s are $420.
