Need Sub options $400 max

Looking for a good sub in the $400 range. Needs to be under 20"height. Would also consider 2 subs as well but not trying to go over $400. I originally was going for the speedwoofer 10s but they don't accept PayPal or affirm so looking for a close alternative

If you could just push your budget 50 bucks more SVS SB1000 in the outlet store would be a good pick.

BIC PL-200 II ($300, shipped, at Amazon.com)

A pair of JPL SUB 550P ($190/ea., shipped, from JBL.com) would have been a good option but at this time the product page says "This item is currently not available."

Was going to recommend the 550P pair as well, shame they sold out.

What about a DIY Option with a pre cut package?

Kit: Dayton Audio 12" HO Driver and Cabinet Bundle $219
https://www.parts-express.com/dayton...ndle--300-7092

Amp: B-52 700 watt amp $188
https://www.parts-express.com/b-52-a...700w--299-2371

No tax and free shipping puts you around $407 with a sub that should be well above anything you can buy pre-made for $400 BTW - This is under 16" tall

Otherwise the BIC mentioned above is a solid choice.

If you can stretch your budget a bit to $500 or wait for a sale (they can be had for $400 occasionally) the Monoprice Monolith 10" THX Sub would be hard to beat too. It's just a hair under 20in high.

The $399 option subwoofer here on this link, is that a solid piece? Definitely considering that as well. Why is it that I see bone of these subs mentioned on any sub reviews list?

You can paint it, wrap it in vinyl, real wood veneer, whatever you want to do. If you go to the DIY section you can see what others have done, but be warned you may end up building a pair of Full Marty's

The Hsu mentioned is a solid choice and has been around a long time. You should be able to find some reviews.

That's a shame because the RSL Speedwoofer 10S is a really great sub for both music and movies and is right on your target price point with full warranty, free shipping, and free trial.

Do yourself a favor and wait for a sale on the Monolith THX Select 10. It's normally $500, but on sale occasionally for $400 or even less. A few weeks back it was $375. Nothing under $500 can touch it outside of DIY.

What would I do, it would depend on my uses. Is this going in my living room, or behind the screen in my theater? Is this movies or music? How soon do I need it? How big my your room? What's my DIY skill level?

If it's going to be in a living room and needs to look attractive (or at least pass the WAF), If I could be patient, I would wait for a sale on the Monolith THX 10", If I couldn't be patient, I would probably go with the Speedwoofer 10s (which you already ruled out), HSU VTF-1 MK3, or if $400 was pushing it, a BIC PL 200 II. The BIC doesn't have as much output but looks better and is cheaper then the Hsu.

If this was going behind my screen wall in my theater, I would definitely go DIY and do the Dayton sub. I would probably do a stand alone amp rather than the plate amp I listed, but budget was a limiting factor. (For a plate amp I might even go with the Dayton 500w rather then the one I listed).

I'm actually not far off as while I have a more expensive sub upstairs, I have a NXG (now defunct) sub in my Theater that is fairly similar to the BIC. If you look in the "under $300 subwoofer" that's a sticky, there are some pretty good reviews on it. I am planning on building two 18" Dayton's in the future though and just painting them black. Since they will be behind the screen, they don't have to be perfect looking.

There are some pretty decent subs around the $500 level including the Monolith 10, SVS PB1000, SVS SB1000, Rythmic L12 but $400 is a much more challenging price point, especially if the Speedwoofer is off the list.

Unless you can find a more expensive bigger sub on sale, I believe that you will be hard pressed to find something to beat the HSU Vtf-1 for the price -- your option, choice, and call.

Monolith has a higher quality driver, slightly larger/heavier cabinet and more amp power compared to the PB-1000. Monolith can also be operated sealed, which the PB-1000 cannot do. Performance wise the Monolith THX Select 10 is pretty comparable to the SVS PB12-NSD. I have both the PB-1000 and Monolith 10 and The Monolith is the better sub. I use the PB-1000 in my bedroom and the other on my PC set up. They do great in those environments.

You can always try the Speedwoofer 10s and see if you like it. RSL offers free returns if it doesn't work out for you. However, the 10S isn't in the same league as the Monolith 10. The Monolith 10 is the least expensive and only 10" subwoofer to ever achieve the audioholics.com large room rating for subs.

No, The Monolith should be head and shoulders better then the Speedwoofer. Not that the Speedwoofer is bad, it may be the best $400 sub out there but the Monolith is probably the best $500 sub out there, DIY excluded.

I vote SVS!

Buy from the outlet sore, look for the next sale (Maybe Fathers Day?) or save a few more bucks and then buy. The sub will make or break your entire experience!

Not saying SVS is the only good sub but I know I have no reason to search elsewhere! My PB12 Plus is awesome and I have a smaller 10" in my bedroom, I would have to look at the model number but it provides great low end bass!

I went back and forth between the Speedwoofer 10s and Monoprice 10. To me I consider $400-500 the same price range. Ultimately I went with the Speedwoofer because of the free trial...being wireless is also a bonus. If I don't like the sound or if there is not enough output I'll return it for free and try something else. Sub is on the way and can't wait to try it out!
